Welcome to both AppyGSP and Buffy. Glad to see more Illinois friends here. Perhaps a mini gathering will be in order when the weather and footing makes for a great trail ride day!

Well isn't this great! I'm so pleased that you'd join us here! We have a terrific group of people, and thanks to them this has become (IMHO) the BEST board on the net. I'm so pleased you decided to be a part of it! And mini-Gathering works for me!

I'm happy that I recognize a few names from other boards and am excited to join in on a peaceful one! We've both been "burned" on other forums, so let's just keep this one our little secret....shhhhhhh No drama here....woo-hoo!

I'm thrilled to be a part of a board where people don't look down their nose at you. Burned at the stake and tired of cliches~~
Hi, 5 QH geldings, 1 very old mare and a mini in the barns and a dog in the house. They run my life and keep me going.
I'm 51 but very close (3 weeks) to being 52--- finally starting to trailride and do some showing.
I agree with the previous poster about keeping this place a tidy little secret.

Hi! My name is Bonnie and I am from southern Wisconsin. I have been an avid reader of Equifriends for several years. I had been a seldom poster on a couple of other boards that a lot of folks from here were/are on..I had always enjoyed reading Chris', Mary Ann's, and Karen's (to name a few) posts. Anyways, a little about me. My husband and I have a small farm where we keep our five horses. We sometimes board a horse in order to put some ride time on or get help from trainer. By day, I work as an lab assistant/assessment test specialist at our local technical college. By night and weekends, I am a certified equine and canine massage therapist. I have been a ECMT since November 2007. My horses: Dudes Black Jack aka Dude - 18 y/o black TWH gelding. w-a-y back on Acme (if anybody remembers), I had posted about us almost losing him to a life threatening reaction to IM Baniamine shot. He is my husband's, Bob, trail horse. However, I have used him as my casual trail horse for two years! Bob mentioned that maybe he should start riding his horse more. Simply Reno aka Reno - 10 year old black and white Paint but registered Pinto mare. She was suppose to by my stock halter and western pleasure show mare, but while at a boarding facility, she had a fencing injury involving both back legs. We do light trail riding with her. She is my soul horse in so many ways! This is not to say she can't be a stinker at times - like the first saddling of each spring! LOL Thee Royal Montage aka Monty - 6 year old bay Arabian. Monty has done the most showing and traveling of all of my horses. He started his show career as a young yearling and continued to show until lat fall of his 2 year old year. He started with traditional Arabian halter. He couldn't stand the standing and waiting around. He did fine when it was his turn to show, but he has a busy mind and has to be doing something. As a early 2 year old, I started training him for Sport Horse In-hand. That was definitely his area! He was the reserve champion gelding for Division 11 - being the youngest gelding by 4 years in his class. We took the chance and took him to Arabian Sport Horse Nationals in Virginia that year. He was top ten in 2 year old geldings for Sport Horse in hand. He was put into under saddle training as a 4 year old for six months. When he came home, we rode for about a month than it rained and rained and rained then it turned Wisconsin cold. I wasn't too concerned, since it is common to put saddle time on a youngster and turn them out for the winter and bring them back again in the spring. When Spring rolled around, we boarded at a friend's facility. OMG! This horse was totally different! We had to restart him from the ground floor. My friend, who has trained horses for over 30 years, put a good 30 days on him. He would get it one day and totally lose it the next. His 1st trainer had heard about the difficulties we were having and offered to take him back for a few months and a very reduced rate. She has had a month and is just getting in the saddle. I like to call him my ADD child. Oh..he is my late mare's one and only foal. His mom, Baskanna Royal, aka Kandy, crossed over almost 2 years ago due to increasing problems from head shaking syndrome AND uveitis. I did a lot of open shows and some trail riding with her. She was another soul horse for me. Markies Mach I aka Markie - 10 year old black miniature gelding. Markie is a fun little fart! I have shown him in halter classes and driving. He is just a rock solid type of guy for the most part. He gives it his all! Markie's only hang-up is he is allergic to almost everything - grasses, weeds, flies, molds, etc. We do the best we can to keep his environment "Markie safe". That is not always an easy task. Wild Joker aka Joker - 4 year old bay pinto miniature gelding. His name fits him to a "t"! Even though he was handled from day one, he sure acts like a wild one! LOL thankfully, I've started using some of Clinton Anderson techniques with him, as it really has helped him. We bought him to replace to two goats we had for buddies for Markie (goats HAD to leave; they chewed Markie's long, beautiful tail off!). Joker has not done any type of showing or formal training. When he is a bit older, about 6, I will focus on driving for him. My dogs: Shelby - 12 year old lab/beagle mix. Shelby's favorite job is holding down the floor or be on the look out for more food! She has been with us since she was five weeks old. She is a grand ole girl! Vegas - 2 year old Pembroke Corgi. What a riot Vegas is! Being from the herding class, she tells Shelby where she can lay and where she can't. Vegas "thinks" she can herd me around, but it ends up more like her nose on my ankle as I go about my business.
I better put in about the human kids LOL We have two, Justin - 24 year old. He lives in Southport NC. He works at a hospital and attends college part time. He and his partner, Josh, has three taco dogs, Max, Tiny, and Peanut. He is coming home for a visit in April to attend the Midwest Horse Fair with me! Yeah! I can't wait to see him, since it has been 2 years! Audrey - 21 years old. She leaves with her hubby to be, Matt. They are planning a wedding for July 2011. I know, a long way off, but she is currently in college for nursing and wants to get through that before getting married. Matt and Audrey have one pup, Elsey. I am happy to be here and hope to post often! Bonnie If you made it this far, you deserve a medal! LOL

Welcome Coldpony, your name definitely fits your area doesn't it. I'm glad to see you here, I am not as knowlegeable as some here but love to learn.
"I am a certified equine and canine massage therapist"
That sounds like a really cool job, I've used an equine therapist but never a canine one. There are many times that I am sure they could have used it though.

I'm so pleased that you'd decide to come out of lurkdom here! And what a great introduction! Since you've been a lurker, you know us far better than we know you. I'm looking forward to that changing. We'll want to hear how your ADD child is catching up, and how you deal with your horse's allergies through the seasons. Maybe we can swap tips. Welcome to the board!

Hey, I'm Heather. I live in central/eastern KY- an hour from the Horse Park. I am 27 years old and I was self taught to trail ride on some old well trained horses, and to take a few horse story short, I raised a young horse up that wasn't mine and he was sold to finish out his saddle training and broke in a 25 year old Belgian plow mare to saddle, took a few year hiatus in riding after she passed away then got my first two horses, Jasmine and Phoenix. Jasmine was a 14.3HH Bay Arab mare- a rescue that no one had time or room for so I took her on, two years later(and a re-home project mare in the middle-Abby) I took on Phoenix from a friend to retire him off the Hunter/Jumper circuit and give her room to take on a new show horse. He's my faithful trail mount to this day at 28 years young- solid red dun appaloosa. I've had a few companion horses through the years for Jasmine as she was going blind(Bo, Sherralyn and Abby) and none worked out, I even had bought a new younger solid paint mare that didn't work out, then had to put Jazz to sleep due to injury and her age(She was two months shy of 28 years old when she was put down), The horses in my life right now: Bahloo- I took on my aunt's shire/clyde mare- trained by Hickory Lake Ranch. TO get her back into shape, allow me to start riding again and giv emy aunt a little breathing room until she's ready to move her back home in Pensacola, FL area. Pheonix- My old man, he's been my rock through everything since Jasmine passed away. my friend taught me to ride english and to jump with the old man while he was still one of her show horses and he's retired with me until the day he passes away. He's a solid red dun appaloosa with a few tiny white spots- some day I'll get someone that can help me get a hold of his registration papers- I have his registered name, and can get his freeze brand but that's as far as I have gotten. I'd love to find out who's behind him for a future horse Heidi- she's my heart horse. She is in the process of being paid for, I never intended to get a paint, a draft or another mare after things with Tessa, but she's a spotted draft mare. I was the first person to get on her back as a 4 year old, bareback and in a rope halter, she's still the sweet laid back mare that she was last year. My aunt doesn't trust her but I do, she's a good mare. The big girl is still growing, and right now she's pushing 17 hands and 1500 pounds. I'm a plus sized rider to begin with so having a big girl like her makes me feel like as a feather. I'm going to start working on english riding myself and I want to push her towards Dressage and trail. She was broke last fall and left mostly untouched all winter except for ground work and bond work with her, soon I shall be getting back on her again.
As for background on me- my name is Heather- Aya Sora is the name of my rabbitry. I raise and show Dutch and New Zealand rabbits- both for pets, show/brood and meat. I messed up my feet years ago so I spend a lot of time in pain and several Podiatrists can't even begin to tell me how to fix my feet or what exactly went wrong. I show my rabbits as I'm scared to death of a horse show ring, and they are all my kids as I'm still single (but love drooling over gorgeous hunks!) and 27, almost 28 years old.

Welcome AyaSora (Heather)!
I saw you on one of the other boards and wondered who you are! There are some members who have done the drafty-dressage thing, bird people (chickens, budgies, parrots), dog (agility and pets of course) people, but no rabbit people as I recall. Lots of trail riders and show folks too.
I have a gaited gelding - he used to be my herd sire but I downsized and he is my only horse now. He was started in his 5 year old winter and got more training the following winter but I never got around to riding him (too much to do with the youngsters and farm). Now that we've moved, I'm finally putting riding time into him and having a blast!

YOu must be daring, I have never gotten the nerve(well until Heidi anyway) to get on a young horse.
