Well, I've already posted, but here we go anyways....I go by ne_reiner on other boards, although at this point in my life I should probably change the name to ne_loafer I am 42 and live in CT with my DH, a cat named Herschel, a dog named Taz, and three horses - FarBoy, Nyx, and Royal. FarBoy is mine, the other two are boarders. I have ridden since I was six, and got my first pony when I was eight. I've had horses ever since. FarBoy was born and raised here, and I reined him for several years before we both got tired of the show pen and started a new career of trail riding. We pretty much do that on weekends now, either from our place here, or at one of the many state forests / WMAs in the area. Before Far, I showed his mother, first in AQHA events, and then later she got me hooked on reining. Outside of my horse life, I work as an IT project manager for a really big bank. I am able to work from home three days a week, as my entire project team is spread out across the country. As far as extra-horse or -work activities, I like to work out, read, garden, bird, and I recently took up crochet again. It's a good winter sport.

Great to have you here, reiner! I had forgotten that you're a geek; sounds like you have a similar job description to my hubby. Only he doesn't work for a RBB (Really Big Bank); he works for a RBC (Really Big Clown). He doesn't get to work from home very often, but some of his staff do. One lives in Phoenix, and another just comes in once a week for face time.
Reining is really fun! I've never shown reining, but I know a number of reining people, have ridden a few reiners, and rehabbed one last year that they thought would have to be put down. That was in November of 2003. By June of 2004, we had him back to the showpen, where he finished his Superior this summer. Whatta horse! Nothing but guts and heart.
I understand the simple pleasures of trail riding, and of having a good horsey companion to share that with. Where do you trail ride? Got anyplace close by?

I'm Rosie from the SM board. I have two horses, an Arabian mare named Summer and a Half-Arabian gelding named Rosie (and no, I didn't name him). I've had Summer since she was a yearling and Rosie since he was three . . . they're both eighteen now and I hope to have them around for another fifteen years or so. It's great to see so many familiar 'faces!'

MaryAnn, even though CT is a small state, there are a surprising number of really nice places to trail ride. The town I live in has more miles of dirt roads than any town in the state, several miles of which are accessible to me from my house. Plus there's a 300 acre WMA about 8/10ths of a mile down on of those roads. There's a 650 acre WMA within a 5 minute trailer ride - technically I could hack there, but it's just easier to throw them on the trailer and go. Two state forests with 45 minutes, both of which have camping for horse / riders, and both are about 2000 acres. Then there's the airline trails through the state - these are rails-to-trails projects, and a lot of miles have been finished...we ride those a lot, and they are beautiful. So, there is a lot of good trail riding. My boy has become a good trail horse over the years, very careful with his feet, and very honest. He's still a little bit of a chicken heart sometimes. I agree with you, reining is a lot of fun! I enjoyed it, and if I ever were to go back to showing, that's where I would go. Far just got burnt out - the stress of training and then showing just started to get to him after a few years. I could tell it was no fun for him. Since I only really have time for one horse, I had to make a choice - either sell him and buy another reiner, or give up reining for a while. I have trouble sending anything down the road, and decided to keep him, and find a different hobby for a while. He is a delightful horse, and LOVES trail riding. So it's worked out for both of us.

I'm Teeni--a long time Acme/SM lurker. I live in Iowa and currently have 8 horses at my barn. 4 of them are mine:
Maggie, a 13 year old gray arab mare Stella, a 2 year old (3 next week! Wow, how time flies) arab filly Happy, a yearling half-arab, half Saddlebred pinto gelding and Vinny, my weanling half-arab half Saddlebred.
The 4 boarders are a 4 year old QH/Saddlebred gelding, a pregnant purebred arab mare, a weanling pinto Walker filly, and a yearling MFT stud colt.
Trying hard to get out of boarding, simplify my horse life and get back to enjoying my horses.
I also have a delightful black lab, Hector, and two pygmy goats, Bootsie Collins and CeCe Rubydew.
I'm very happy to be here--this board seems very warm and welcoming, especially as I have been a long time lurker on two other boards and have rarely been brave enough to post!

Welcome, welcome, welcome Teeni! It's so good to see you!!! No need for bravery here; you can just be yourself. This is a different kind of board, where we all feel strongly about supporting one another. Absolutely no flames allowed; no rudeness, no catty stuff. And with this crowd, it goes without saying; these are some of the best folks on the net. Post in Peace here, my friend! Merry Christmas!

Hi everyone! I think most of you know me, although I don't post much at SM. I'm Kit. I live in NW Washington and have two QHs mares. Quincy is 6. I got her the day before Christmas Eve, six years ago. I can't believe it's been that long. Murphy is 4, and I'm HOPING that next year, will be a healthy year for year and I'll be able to get her broke. We've had more than a few set-backs in that area.

It's great to see you here, Kit! It's true that Murphy's had more than her share of hard luck, and because of it, so have you. Here's hoping for a wonderful 2005 for both of you! Oh, and the mane bags came a couple of days ago, and due to the cold, I only have three of them in. I'll take them down and redo everything tomorrow, when it should be warmer. Also her tail bag; can you believe it, she bucked it off! Once again, I'm so pleased you're here!

Getting tired of stuff elsewhere.... For those who don't know me - I live in Oklahoma with my wonderful husband of 25 years, two sons ages 10 and 7, 13 horses, mostly QHs but we have a couple of paints, and app and now an Arab thrown in for good measure. Rounding out the crew are a dog, a cat, 2 guineas, and 2 guinea pigs.
