*****UPDATE*****UPDATE**** I moved Bob from his hospital cage in the bathroom, back into his regular big cage. He seems to be doing much better, and from the top he looks good. Underneath, however, he was eventually covered in oozing blisters that are now scabbing over. There is still a big danger of infection, so would appreciate if you could still keep him in your thoughts. His attitude through this whole thing has been so great... he has just been determined to hang in there. I have read and read and read about this on the internet. Lots of people have lost snakes to this because it moves so quickly and very many of the ones who get to the blister state don't make it much past that. So, thanks everyone, for sending good thoughts! ********************************* Rose's pet snake (not the one that got loose)is very very very sick. He has septicemia, which we didn't catch early because the first symptom is the belly turning pink and that is also what happens when they shed. So far we are lucky because they can go from pink belly to pink all over to dead in the matter of a couple of days and he did not progress that fast. We have him on antibiotics and part of him looks better and part of him looks worse. He's getting blisters underneath, which is part of the progression of the disease and might be because that was set in motion before we started the antibiotics. I'm hoping that is the case and it's not that the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics. He looks a mess right now. The shots are making sores in his skin and he has the blisters and he is bruising easily. We are soaking him and using homeopathic remedies as well as the antibiotics. He's been on the antibiotics for a week. I know a lot of you can't stand snakes, but this guy is our baby. He is 5 years old and we got him three years ago and he made himself part of the family instantly. People who hated snakes before, change their minds when they meet him. Here is a picture that Donna took of Jacob, Rose and Bob a couple summers ago Here is where I snuck him into a classroom that I volunteer in. It's a class for middle school kids who just moved here and don't speak English. The principal never responded to a request for permission, so I stuck him in a backpack. The kids and the teacher were SO excited! We would all be crushed if he didn't get better.

Prayers sent. I know he's getting the best of care. Wow I had no idea they could get that big so fast. They can actually get much bigger, much faster, but it's hard on their heart and immune system and they don't live as long. The last two that I had lived into their 20's and they never got "full size" and I have never met anyone with a large snake that old. At least Bob is keeping his sense of humor. He is spending a huge amount of time confined to the bathtub in very warm water and he has started getting a huge breath of air and then ducking his head and blowing bubbles.

I swear that a days worth of your healing thoughts has brought more healing than a week's worth of antibiotics! He is looking better this morning. Hopefully that sticks. The blistered area is still very red and will have to be watched for infection. He still looks very rough, but a lot more of the pink has gone away.
We still need your thoughts and prayers (and reiki... Thanks, Marci! Snakes really respond to those kinds of things) because the antibiotics are really hard on the kidneys and I don't know how much organ damage the infection has done. I have him on Ultra Clear (which is a detox supplement), and milk thistle that helps the liver heal. He isn't out of the woods yet.

He's beautiful! What kind of analysis he and what does he live in? I imagine he has a huge home... He is some sort of "fancy" colored Burmese python. They have a whole bunch of different names for the color/pattern combinations and I don't know them all. The pattern he has is called "granite" and the color is a type of albino. He lives in a cage that is five feet long and almost five feet high and about two feet deep. It's got a horizontal divider, so that it can be two cages or one large cage and he is just in the top half right now because it's easier to keep that warm in the winter. He has a giant cat litter box that is his water dish because they like to soak in their water. His hidey house is one of those round plastic laundry tubs turned upside down, with a hole cut into it for a door. He is by himself right now, but Rose has a younger one that will be big enough to join him at some point. They seem to like the company because they almost always curl up together. I didn't have any tests done on him. Once they turn all pink like that, there is pretty much only one thing that causes it. I may get some blood work done once he appears to have recovered to make sure that his blood counts are back to normal.

Cool. That sounds like a really nice snake habitat. So he's the kind of snake That people have let loose in Florida right? (Grr people to don't research their pets to find out that they will be large)
