This summer Rachel, who is now 11, and I have been riding down the road a few times since school got out. Rachel has been riding around our property a few times a week. Hopefully we will be able to haul out to a trail after our vacation. I tried uploading a pic of Rachel and Misty, but the file was too big.
Instead, you get to see a pic of my DH on his new horse we got Thursday. DH has not ridden in 13 1/2 years. He had a really bad fall of my mare. He has talked about wanting to ride again. I have been casually looking for a Gaited horse that would be good for a beginner to regain his confidence. Agate is a 13 year old TWH. DH named her Agate due to her marbled colored eyes and we love hunting for agates (a cool rock). She is so patient and will do anything asked of her and willingly go any speed asked. I think we found a gem. She is so smooth. I have never ridden a gaited horse before. Wow! It feels like you are sitting still when she is in her running walk. When we looked at her, I rode first in the arena. Well the owner technically rode her first. I expected DH to be clenched up nervous when he mounted. Nope. He did a great job with her in the arena. Then the owner came out with another horse and they went on a 3 mile trail ride. DH even cantered her! The gaited down a road and she did not bat an eye. He had so much fun with her. I am thinking when Goldie needs to be retired I am going to go gaited as well.
Now we need to find one more so we can all go riding. 😊
