Cheap trick of the day. Salt and oil works on all frying pans not just cast iron. And horse people, if you are using $$ kosher salt for cleaning instead of taking a jar of feed salt when you open the bag you are wasting money you could be spending on tack or hay.
I had never heard of the salt and oil for cast iron until a couple years ago. It works great and also works on other frying pans, or any cookware that has gotten a bit sticky with burned on food that never completely washed off. But of course this cheap redneck would never buy $$ kosher salt to use as a scrubbing agent. The coarser salt does work better than the fine grain table salt would IMO.
