this pony was too good of a deal to pass up!
Yesterday morning I got online about this time and just happened to go to craigslist and search "pony". Been doing this all summer, figuring if the right pony came along we'd go look at it for Caiden otherwise we'd stick with a big horse for him. Most of the ones that fit the level of training I want were too small. Caiden is a big guy and a 10 hand pony wasn't going to cut it. So yesterday this ad came up for a 15 year old pony gelding, 12.2 hands tall, broke to ride on his own or would follow on a lead rope. Lots of trail miles, healthy, sound, and brace yourselves....FREE to a good home. I was staring at the computer in disbelief when my husband came downstairs to leave for work. I read him the ad and he wondered too if it was too good to be true (and also mentioned something about he thought I was looking to downsize a little. I said I have to go see him and texted the # in the ad saying I was looking for a pony for my 3 year old son. She replied asking if I had other horses. When I told her I had another pony and other horses and 30 years horse experience her reply was "perfect". I told he I was 2 hours away from her and could come right away but if she would hold him I would appreciate it because I had a hair appt at 11. She replied back that all the other people she had talked to were newbies or wanted a pet so they could wait
So we took the trailer to my haircut appt and headed out right after. When I got to the little town she lived nearest to I stopped to put a little fuel in and so the kids could go to the bathroom and get a drink. I was looking at the directions on my phone and a guy walked over and said "excuse me but I bet you are in town to go see a pony'? I said I was and he told me it was his daughter and he was headed out there so I could just follow him, lol. Gotta love a small town!
So here is Smoky. She said before they got him he was a pony ring pony and is used to following so you can put him in line on the trail and he'll just stay right there. He needs his teeth done and from the looks of his neck/withers a little chiro work wouldn't hurt. If it stops raining today we'll go out and ride. Caiden's pretty excited to have his own pony.
