40 is going to be tough. You can usually find dressage girths up to 38. Then, there is a gap before the "regular-sized" English girths start in. If you have one that is a little shorter, here is a link to girth extenders. www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/3040/GE3119You might find you can use an inexpensive pony string western cinch and a girth converter. www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/1050/GC6110?utm_source=shopzilla&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopzilla%2Bdata%2Bfeed This really wouldn't work in your case, but you could sure steal the idea and make one that works. After all, you are talking about a lead-line saddle. He isn't running barrels, racing 100 miles or cutting cattle. You could get a nylon strap that had a buckle on each end and was--let's say, 6 inches long. Buckle one end to the billet. Run the strap through the ring on the western cinch, and then buckle the other end to the other billet. Make sure you have good-quality buckles and it should work fine for your purpose.

Hi MJ. I don't have a girth extender per se, but I do have this. The neoprene backing on this cinch is all cracked so I never use it anymore. If you want to pm me your addy I'll mail it or cut the part with those straps and mail that and you can extract the straps to length you want and punch some holes to create a girth extender.

I have a 38" english girth - brand new, too small for Dancer and I have a brand new 40" girth that I need to try on her (both fleece) - but I'm thinking that's going to be too small also. I also have a lightly used 32" western girth I got from Tractor Supply. PM me or send me a message on FB - I can send them on to you and if they don't work out for you, you can pass them on to someone else who needs them.

MJ, did you ever get those girths? I just realized this is about a year old!
I have a string western cinch (mostly off-white with dark red woven just below the rings and through the middle if you want it. It measures between 31 and 32 inches, it will probably stretch an inch.
Oh, and I have one or maybe two girth extenders if you still need one.
