I added a new exercise. I added riding a bike a couple or times a week. I joined a group that does a fairly easy ride around town. We do 11 miles. Some hills, I borrow a bike since mine is too highly geared. Its the pits to make it up hills in it. Easy on a newer bike. But I need a sugar daddy to afford one. LOL The owner of the shop has no problem with letting people ride his bikes. The bad things are I have had 2 thigh cramps since starting this, man o man do they hurt. So I have been over hydrating and drinking Gatorade on the days I ride. But I have gained 3 lbs!! It might be water but still....sigh. Its still better than cramping thighs though and my clothes still fit the same. Perhaps its just what it is. Or it might go down in time. I sure sweat a lot when bike riding. Oh...and I LOVE it!

Mom was cleaning out her garage and gave me back my 10 speed. I have no idea why I didn't get it back sooner. It needs new tires and I will have to get a brain bucket. Remember the days when there wasn't such a thing??? LOL I need to do this before it gets too hot.

I never even had a thought of wearing a helmet back then for anything except jumping my horse. I didn't plan it but the pants and helmet I got at the thrift store match perfectly. And then I had a shirt that matches at home already.
I got to try a new bike today and WOW I love it. So much easier to get around on this bike than my thriftshop special. Even better than the other two I have tried out there. Oh and yesterday I figured out why my tires seemed to not hold air.....the new tire pump I got has a hole in the hose. It lets more air out than pushes in. Ive only had it a month. If I can find the reciept I'm taking it back.

Gatorade has a big advertising budget, but isn't nearly as good of replacement drink as it claims. It is full of sugar and calories--even the G-2. You probably need more potassium to stop the cramps. Gatorade doesn't supply potassium. Try V-8 juice--it is a potassium powerhouse and is full of vitamins and minerals.

Thanks. I found that if I stay hydrated before the cramps don't happen I'm going to find that recipe for homemade Gatorade so I can tweak it to my taste.

Try Morton's Lite salt (half potassium chloride), green or orange unsweetened koolaid and a little sugar. Take it easy with the koolaid so you don't need to add a lot of sugar.

Staying hydrated is key. Sounds like you have the right idea. Also, the weight gain you are seeing could be muscle! Muscle weighs more than fat and your clothes would fit the same. Muscle is good.

I know the muscle is smoother. Yesterday I did the Tuesday ride that has a lot more uphills and when we got done I wasn't tired, I could have done more. It felt wonderful.

Gained another 2 lbs! But I am more fit, the hills don't slay me anymore. I spent 2 hours in the pool doing laps. I have noticed even with the weight gain my pants are looser in the legs. Oddly the bras are bit more filled out too, just the cups. The band is the same. I hope that when it is done making muscle I will once more see a reduction on the scale.

11 miles...wow. My daughter and I will bike 4 miles to the ice cream shop but any more than that I would need a ride home! Have you tried magnesium? I used to get really bad leg cramps and charlie horses no matter how much water I drank or potassium I tried to get. My dr recommended that I start taking magnesium and after about 2 weeks I no longer had any charlie horses. And I got them everywhere...in my feet, in my calf, in my thigh, my neck, my hands...etc. I stopped taking the magnesium for about 6 months and they came back...so I take it every day.

Well it was lack of water for me. No more cramps since being careful to rehydrate. I just bought a new to me bike, a real upgrade since it looks like this is something I enjoy and I am saving a lot in gas. A nice bike makes a heck of a difference. Riding my el cheapo Huffy is like riding a ill trained rent horse with gaits like a jack hammer. It gets you there but its tough to take. The new bike rides like a Cadillac drives, smooth and easy.

Oh yeah the Huffy is. But my knees would ache when we were going against the wind. Gotta baby them. As for the cramps they went away when I was taking magnesium, tonight I had one and I ran out a couple of days ago. I took the dogs for a ride today, Jazz was not thrilled but Toby thinks its great-course I let him trot beside the bike. Jazz is getting old and slow. I let them off leash on a trail that is away from cars and had to keep waiting for Jazz, she is so busy sniffing and peeing on everything she has a tough time keeping up. LOL She jumped out of the basket once but was tied in with a harness. She hung from it and didn't try that one again. I want to get Toby used to the basket tomorrow so that when I meet with the club I can bring him along. He howls and cries and carries on when I leave on the bike. Jazz she could care less.
