Ah, it is getting to be that time. Horses that shiver need turnouts--regardless of if they are young or old. Save your shoelaces when you throw away old shoes. An old shoelace can save you a hundred dollars, or more. A blanket half-attached to a horse and dragging and getting stepped on can cost you--in addition to the price of the blanket--a huge vet bill as a panicked horse runs through fences..... This is truly "a stitch in time saves nine." Those buckles are made by the lowest bidder. They can break when rolled on just right. Some of them, probably not this particular style, can come undone when rolled on just right. An old shoelace may not look pretty, but who cares?

And I love how you feel about shivering. I just read an article last week arguing AGAINST blanketing, saying a horse chooses to shiver. Uh, yeah whatever.
