You will never eat "store-bought" again Sourdough Donuts 1 cup thick, rich Sourdough starter 1 egg 1 TBSP cooking oil 1 cup sugar 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp cinnamon ½ tsp baking soda 2 tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt 2 cups flour—or enough to make the sourdough mixture easy to handle. Pour the sourdough into a bowl with the mixed egg, cooking oil, and all dry ingredients. Do not handle any more than is necessary to get it all blended. Put the dough on a floured surface and roll it out to about a half-inch thick. Cut into donuts. Roll the centers into balls to make “donut holes” to cook along with the donuts. Let stand after cutting to allow the doughnuts to rise before frying. Try to find an area about 80-85 degrees—if necessary, turn the oven on warm, then turn it off and close the door. Heat the cooking oil to 375 degrees F. That is the default temperature for a “Fry Daddy”. Carefully lower the donuts into the hot oil. Cook 2-3 minutes per side. Drain the donuts on paper towels while you fry more donuts. Don’t overfill the fryer—just a couple donuts will fit at a time (with some donut holes.) Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar or any other topping of your choice—or eat plain.
