Trying to get more info on my Horse trailer. I never got a title for it, so never got a tag for it. Ive had it for 6 years, and love it. Im trying to get more info on it. I dont even know what year it is... I had a bill of sale, but that has since gotten lost. Thanks to my parents. I left it with them when we moved so it would be "safe".
Serial number is: 00000000000021075
Thanks Cathie

Our trailer is a Bonanza and that is supposed to be related to the Ponderosa and the Wrangler.
I heard some of them are out of business.

T only problem I have had with my trailer is the top rusting. Its a steal trailer, so its going to rust. I have even repainted it, with roofing rubberized Paint, and it rusted thru in a matter of weeks. I know I didnt get all the rust off, it was all surface rust, nothing thru. Plus I sprayed it with the stuff that was supposed to stop the rust and it still did. But not knowing how old the trailer is. I was not to worried about it. The wood on the sides are dieing too, but again, that is just normal wear and tear on the trailer, plus all the lovely rain Florida has been getting.

Call your clerk and recorder or equivalent. You should be able to at least get a salvage title without too much hassle. If the frame of the trailer is sound and you like it I think it would be worth doing that.

Call you state DMV office and find out about getting a replacement title. If it has ever been titled they should be able to look it up. That would get you the year and all that. They might require you to get the signature of the last recorded owner in order to get a replacement title or you might be able to title it as "home built" or salvage.

I have called, but without proof of ownership they will not do anything. They could do a title search, but since I know Im not the owner ( on the title), they are not very helpful at all. Salvage title will not help as its not salvage, I want a tag for it.

There's an old flatbed trailer that was abandoned on my parents' property. It looks like a homemade trailer and we do know that it was hauled from Texas by the person who now doesn't remember having left it there. Texas doesn't provide titles on trailers (at least they used to not) and my dad doesn't have a bill of sale and Bill swears he didn't bring it. So based on Cathie's experience, it will rot in my dad's barn because he can't haul it anywhere, Bill won't take it back, there's no bill of sale, etc. And the skeptical part of me wonders if Bill just borrowed it from someone in Texas to move here all those years ago and just never returned it, even when they moved back to Texas.

I found out recently that smaller trailers here don't even have to be registered. If it under a certain amount of weight that is.

Salvage title will not help as its not salvage, I want a tag for it. If you have the option, call around. Another place may tag and title it for you, even when this place says you can't. Sometimes it is the employee behind the counter and how hard they want to work for YOU. We've had it happen before.... It also may not have ever been titled, it may have never gotten past it certificate of origin. So you might try printing out a bill of sale, with your parents as the seller and you as the buyer, and that may be all it takes. (Even if your parents weren't the seller - you could use whomever you want, as long as you get their signature) DH went to Alaska a few weeks ago to renew his DL and register/tag 3 trailers and a motorcycle. One of the trailers only had the COO, which had been signed by the original purchaser (not DH), but he never took it in to be turned into a title. Since that guy lives in OK, there is zero chance we were gonna get his signature. The first DMV DH went to said they wouldn't tag it. The 2nd DMV said "sure, no problem"...

Have you tried calling a dealership that sells used trailers and see if they have any ideas for you?
See if the DMV will give you the titled owner's address. Maybe you can contact them and get some help. Here's my story with doing a similar thing with a horse...
I bought a registered horse whose papers were "lost" a few years ago. I had her registered name and registration #. I called AQHA and they gave me the name and address of the last registered owner. I sent them a letter and asked them to fill out paper work to get a duplicate set of her papers (I paid the fee). They did and when they got the papers they signed them and sent them to me and I was able to transfer the horse into my name.

Ponderosa has gone out of business and trying to identify thru VIN is near impossible. Many were originally sold without a title (before titles were mandatory) and can be titled via Bill of Sale and weight ticket. With the low vin number (yours is only slightly newer than mine (...17693) it would never have had a title issued.

Hello I just bought a ponderosa cattle trailer and I can get it registered either, mine has the same serial but ending with 11330, so I’m in Texas they said to bring it to the police station i don’t know for what what I can do?

Guest, since Cathie posted that question 12 years ago and her last update was back then, we dont know how this turned out for her. You could contact your local DMV and if you dont get anywhere, go further and contact the Secretary of State. If that fails, start contacting companies that sell trailers. Livestock, horse and even semi trailers. In my state, it takes awhile... but as long as you can supply a serial number, that office can do the research and hopefully supply you with a title. Good luck.
