I have always loved the little Newer Spreaders and how simple they seemed to be to use. But, I never wanted to pay the price for one... So, a few months ago, I found the smallest size "traditional" manure spreader for sale on Craigslist, and I bought it. I really am happy with the spreader, it performs like a champ. The drawbacks are that it takes me 6 weeks to fill it, I can't pull it down the barn aisle, and it is pretty darn heavy to move by hand - a few feet is the limit. I wasn't "shopping" for another spreader, but..... the Southern Maryland Craigslist had one for sale... 5 miles from my house. Dirt stinkin' cheap, barely used, stored indoors. So, you guessed it, I bought it. OMG!!!! The thing ROCKS! It fits anywhere, I can move it by hand, even fully loaded! And it destroys the manure - it doesn't fling big clumps... It can be pulled by the tiniest of lawn tractors/mowers. I filled it last night, and DH was using our mower, so I pulled it BY HAND to empty it! It is so well balanced it makes it effortless. And... the lady also had a 70' roundpen (13 16-ft panels) that she offered to me dirt cheap. So I now have a roundpen, too...

Always love a good deal and you got two of them. Would you list the model and everything on the spreader on the "Useful Stuff" board.

I love great bargains like you found.
The only thing about leaving manure in anything for more than just a few days is the deterioration that can happen. Heck...even leaving manure in anything metal or wooden for a day can cause it to rot or rust away.
You are so lucky to have found a small easy to handle spreader... and a bargain price on the round pen!!

I too have a Newer Spreader--everything Res says is true. GREAT spreader. And because of it, I am getting a whole lot more hay off the top of my hay field.

They don't even sell them in Missouri, Oklahoma or Illinois - the closest place to me is around Wichita. Seems like they would have them around here.

MJ - that's why I never planned on having one. They do seem pretty hard to find, I don't think many people get rid of them once they buy them... I always saw them at the QH World trade show, but I never thought twice about buying one, thought they were overpriced. They may be spendy, but DANG! they work awesome.
The lady I bought mine from is getting out of horses. She had double knee replacements and she tried to ride, but no longer could. She was selling everything "horse" related.
