I changed my diet last summer. I had gained so much weight that my size 14's were tight and uncomfortable. I cut out all white foods and processed sugar. I have now lost 27 pounds from my heaviest and fit comfortably in a size 12. I never really lost sizes, just toned up and felt thinner and more limber. I don't want to buy new clothes until I can feel comfortable in a size 10. I allow myself to eat what ever I want on the weekends as long as it is in moderation......but....during the week I try and stick to my diet. I find myself cheating on my diet choices. Last night cake and pizza. Hubby tries routinely to sabatoge me, my daughter is a on a baking kick in the kitchen. Now I find myself indulging in the worst things, ice cream and breads.... I am in charge of what goes in my mouth, although I would love to blame somebody else.. I figure if I write down and share it, maybe I can stick to my diet a little better....Sam is a little guy compared to Mason and I want to feel like we fit........vanity is my friend... ;D

I admire you! I can NOT diet. As soon as I feel hungry I gobble up everything in reach. I have turned to exercise. Mostly walking. One GREAT side effect is that if I exercise enough, my appetite goes down and my energy goes up. My "magic" amount of time is 70 minutes. That weight creeping up is SO FRUSTRATING! Do you know that an extra 38 calories a day adds up to 20 pounds over 5 years? ? Do you ever take an extra spoonful of something while you are sitting at the dinner table "just to finish it off" or just because you are still sitting there? That's where the extra weight comes from. The twins TAKE.................................SOOOOOOOOO..........................................LOOOOONG..................................TO EEEEEAT.......................that I was having the extra couple of bites because I was BORED! Now I just get up from the table and go do something.

I walk with Tumbles every morning. We are up to two miles and just started walking the new trail by the pasture. Can't do the whole thing yet (only have an hour in the mornings) but hope to get there soon, it's a 4 1/2 mile loop. I need to get my Zumba dance back out! ;D ;D Maybe I can past the hunger stage...

I've been walking 3 1/2 and also lifting weights for about 20-30 minutes (which I have totally slacked off on while everyone has been sick and I haven't picked it back up again.) I'm assuming everyone has their own personal threshold. I was working out for 40 minutes a day and then teh weight was coming on faster because I was just getting MORE hungry

You used the right word donna. SABATOGE
Does your husband have a weight problem? What about your daughter?
For some reason they do not want to see you succeed. You need to get angry at them and have a chat with them.
They are not being fair to you. Who does the grocery shopping? You do not have to buy the bad choices. So what if they want ice cream or cookies. Tell them you have a goal and you need their "help" and support.
Set some rules. Maybe one would be NO junk foods in the house until you hit your goal. Maybe your rule could be no junk foods during the week.
You have been doing wonderful. Do not let them get the best of you. Talk to them. Make your rules. Stick to the rules.

Donna, are you on Beta Blockers? My main blood pressure medicine is a beta blocker, and there are some other sorts of meds that are also beta blockers. They have the effect of lowering your metabolism which means you need to eat less just to maintain current weight. I've used those online diet-logging things to figure out how many calories I need and then log my foods. And I gain! or maybe drop a few pounds and get them back. I think what I need to do is look up my calorie goal and subtract 10% for my real daily calorie requirement. That or increase my exercise by quite a bit. Check out this article or search on <beta blocker metabolism> www.buzzle.com/articles/beta-blockers-and-weight-gain.html

This is so hard. I feel the same as you do - I am responsible for what I put in my mouth. At the same time, a little support is nice! I would ask hubby and daughter for their help. Tell them about health concerns or whatever it is that motivates you. I suspect that the occasional baked good or too many pizza nights is what is interfering with your progress. Maybe agree on a once a month frequency or something like that?
What I have found is that my metabolism is so messed up that I don't really sustainably lose weight unless I am on pretty low cal, moderate carb and lots of exercise. It sucks, but it makes me hyper aware that just a small deviation interferes with my goals.

I signed up online with My Fitness Pal. It has a calorie counter and my friends there can see what I eat every day. I hesitate to put some things in my mouth because I don't want to post them, and I'm anal about putting everything on there, so it makes it easier for me. That and my friends might just get me.

Did a four mile walk this morning....feeling pretty good about myself today. ;D Stuck to my diet one day in a row... Going to spend the evening out at the new pasture and try to get pictures of the Super Moon...maybe a couple ponies in silhouette. I will weigh myself on Monday... The MyFitness Pal, do you join with friends?

Don't be sad... it's okay to indulge sometimes, Really!
3,600 calories make a pound. 800 calories of popcorn do not make a pound, although the salt can suck up enough water to make the scale look like it does. Walking raises your metabolism so you burn more calories at rest than you would otherwise. You also build muscle, and muscle tissue burns more calories also. Walking 4 miles will work off about 400 calories. Do that twice and you have negated the popcorn, plus more because of the metabolism thing... no worries!
