1 Bar Fels Naptha Soap
1 C Arm & Hammer WASHING SODA
1/2 C 20 Mule Borax
1t Shaklee Basic H (optional)
Grate soap and combine with 2qt water. Heat on medium heat until completely melted. Fill a 5 gallon bucket half-full with hot water and add Soda and Borax (and Basic H if using it). Wisk together until dissolved, add in melted soap and stir until incorporated. Fill the bucket the rest of the way with water and stir. After sitting, mixture will be lumpy and thick. Restir and dip into storage container 1/2 mixture, 1/2 water. Shake well.
Front Load 1/4 C (640 Loads) Top Load 3/4 C (180 Loads)
I bought my ingredients in Wal-Mart (laundry aisle). I bought a 5 gallon bucket from Walmart to store the detergent in and am using a the bottle from a commercial detergent for daily use that I will refill as needed.
I think all the ingredients together were under $10.
I may do some searching online for a different recipe that used a homemade soap. The Fels Naptha soap has a pretty strong fragrance. It's diluted when you make the detergent but I like fragrance-free laundry detergent.
