I talked to a lady this morning who was telling a group of us that she has lost a lot of weight. I mean something like 60 pounds and she has about 40 more to go.
She stopped eating anything with sugar, all bread, potatoes and pop.

There is that doctor that is in the newspaper (I forget his name!) that has the column and he has a no sugar no flour diet. I have thought seriously about getting his book. I just told my dh yesterday that only HEALTHY foods are going to be in our house from now on...I don't care if he likes a huge bowl of ice cream every night. I don't eat ice cream but I do eat some of the other junk he likes (like chocolate covered almonds : . I have officially gained 25 lbs since we got married (10 years in April)....and I am not even a little happy about it

Chocolate covered almonds? I LOVE chocolate covered almonds! Didja know a person should eat about 10 almonds every day? They help balance our acid levels. Disease loves the acidic body. Cancer fanatics will not eat white foods (except chicken and some sea foods) no white flour no sugar no potatoes... in fact most root foods are a no no no foods with any preservatives or additives. About 6 years ago I dropped 50 pounds in 5 months. I did not eat any thing with sugar, flour, potatoes, pop, nothing man made. EXCEPT once a week I would buy a Subway sandwich. I would buy a foot long turkey on italian bread. no cheese, no mayo.. and all the vegies. I drank lots of water, ate lots of fruit, had chicken and green beans for lunch... almost daily. I need to do that again. I felt sooo good! So much energy...

I dunno...I don't think that deprivation is the way to go. I'm all about moderation in everything. I know that I can't eat a moderate amount of chips, so I don't eat them at all. I can't see telling myself that I can't eat anything with bread etc and I won't give up cheese. Its all about calories in vs calories burned for me. Snaff- I just read that about almonds somewhere...

I lose weight best by just watching my calories. DH really has to be careful of *what* he eats though, at least to lose weight. Me, if I stop when I'm full and work out I'm golden.

We are all so different. Some of us are like IR horses, air ferns, that need to eat so little to keep weight in control although i guess pretty much everybody needs to watch what they eat to some extent!
Sounds like this lady has done wonderful! As an IR type person who has lost large amount of weight, the hard part is keeping it off. I hope she is able to attain that maintenance, even of what she has lost so far - that is the real struggle. Her program is a good one - avoiding those "white" and low nutritient value foods is a good way to go.

Dont get me wrong... there is a belief that white foods (flour and sugar) are not healthy choices for us. Doesnt matter how many calories we consume of them.

I think we all know that! I was just commenting on what worked for her, that for me it's not necessary to go to that levels just to lose weight but for my DH that's pretty much what he has to do.
