do you give a 1,000 pound horse? Star has broken out in hives all over his neck and face. Poor thing looks awful. He's eating and drinking just fine, trotting around with energy, but he looks terrible.

THANKS. I've got some kids liquid benadryl here that should be easy to administer with a syringe. I'll have to figure dosage but that helps a bunch!

I have been instructed to give 5 also.
BUT, I don't know about liquid. I don't know if that is ok for horses.
I buy generic benadryl (diphenhydramine) in capsules, open the caps, & pour the powder on a puddle of molasses & mix it in. The mix with a little feed.
If I have the coated tablets, I put them in some feed & Cookie just eats them.

Liquid is fine for horses.
Here's the strengths from drugs.com - you would need 10 ml of liquid to make 1 adult tablet , so that would be 50 ml for one horse dose.
Benadryl Allergy - Capsules, soft-gels 25 mg - Tablets 25 mg - Tablets, chewable 12.5 mg
Benadryl Children's Allergy - Liquid 12.5 mg per 5 mL
If you have some Anahist on hand, that would work well too. The label should provide the dosage.

What's his temp? Boston had some hives Saturday-not bad, just skeeter like bite hives-and yesterday they were still there but not worse. Holly came out to ride and I assigned her to Boston, normally a GO machine...and she had no go. I joked that maybe she was sick...so when we were done I temped her at 104.2. At that point I didn't care about the hives but I'm sure they were related.

He looked much better after a dose, but today, the welts are back. We've got lots of stinging nettle around here and other weeds that we didn't have much of in Kansas. Not sure what he's allergic to

I was giving it to Shadow 2 x a day. I really needed Dex, but with her founder history its not gonna happen unless its life threatening.
