Okay, I have been searching high and low for a certain type and size of Tucker saddle for the right price and I think I found it and it is only 1.5 hours drive away! I want 17.5" seat, and the seller says it is. When I got the serial number, I suspect he is wrong and it is a 16.5". Now, they may have changed their serial number scheme, so I am curious if any of you know:
0226061017M
I think means: 02 = 2002 260= High Plains Model 6 = 16.5" seat 1017 = unique saddle number M= med tree

Call the Tucker Company and give them the serial number. They will tell all.

The number you are showing was the system used betwen 1998 and 2005. Mine reads 041466116M. 04= year 146= model (river plantation) 6= 16.5" 116= unique saddle number M= medium tree
I, too, wanted a 17.5" seat. The saleslady told me this one was a 17" (I was so excited to find one, I never thought to look at the number!!) Anyway.......now I see mine is actually a 16.5".......and there is more than enough room.....more than enough.

I don't know how these saddles fit, but compared to a western saddle, 17.5 is say big. I weigh around 170 and ride in a 15.5" western. Here is the seat sizing from Tuckers website...
"A. Consider your height, weight and the type of saddle you are used to, when choosing the right seat size for your riding needs. Our saddle seats will typically fit a bit smaller than some saddles. Our average seat size is 16 1/2", it usually accommodates medium height riders from 150 to 190 lbs. The 15.5 seat fits small riders usually less than 150 lbs. The 17.5 seat fits taller riders or larger than 190 lbs. 18.5 is also available for the very tall and/or larger riders. The Trooper and Montreal Lite seats measure 17.5 and 19.5."
and..."Seat Size: may be a 5-8: 5=15.5", 6=16.5", 7=17.5", 8=18.5""

Pam-I dont know about the High Plains model, but the River Plantation and Endurance definitely sit way smaller. I usually ride in a 16" saddle with plenty of room left, but my River Plantation is a 17.5" seat and it fits the same as a normal 16".

It is definately a 16.5 - I am bummed as it is in great condition and a good price AND local. rats.
I let the seller know that he is misinformed about the seat size.
So, I could probably make a 16.5" work, but I am plus sized and with the high cantle that saddle has am worried it would be a tight fit. (The plantation is sized differently then the western saddles so that is an apples to oranges comparison). I sat in a Cheyenne, another western model and I was very comfortable in the 17.5" - plenty of room, my thigh didn't hit any rigging wrong, etc etc. The guy is an hour and a half away, and I don't want to trailer my horse down to check it out (he doesn't have a horse anymore) so that I can ride in it to see if a 16.5 will work - when I know the 17.5 IS comfy.
My western saddle is a 16" equitation. My son who is not overweight, but a big tall guy, cannot sit this saddle. Ingela who is quite thin can't fit it either because they have such long thigh bones they hit the rigging and pommel all wrong. It is strange to see that they are cramped in a saddle that I ride in (and I am definately plus sized). I guess what I am saying is it isn't just your butt/thigh flesh, it really is how your whole body fits the angles.
