I lived in New Mexico from 79-81. During that time one of my friends gave me a starter for "friendship cake" - it's like a chain letter but way better!!!
The starter is sort of like sour dough but I think it's more tame yeast than wild (like sour dough) and is sweeter. I just looked it up, there are quite a few ways to start it but the thing they all have in common is the fact that every few days or a week, you must divide it and (usually) give some away. I don't think it travels by mail well, so it may not be very suitable for most of the EquiFriends to share except through their Real Life neighbors.
