OK yesterday I picked up some Skinny Cow ice cream cones. THEY ARE WONDERFUL!!!! And only 3 points on Weight watchers. Oh and I snuck on the scale this morning-yeah 3 days early I had dropped another pound. I LOVE WW. ;D I'm hoping against hope that I make it to 2 by Friday, but 1 is just fine. It would bring me to 15 so far. I swear I am eating more than I was when I wasn't dieting, just making better choices. Oh and I think I need to buy a belt, my pants are heading south, and a new bra. I might be able to take the one I just bought in around the back. I hate just getting something and it not fitting anymore, yeah right like THAT is going to stop me. Hey maybe I will try on a few of my old bras that I didn't fit in...ohh I think I have a couple pairs of jeans too stuck in a closet........

You're doing great, Marci! Congratulations on another lb biting the dust! And here's to better choices! I can hardly wait until my jeans are saggy. Shoot, these were 'fat jeans' I bought last year to get me through. Grrrr....

Skinny Cow - my sons LOVE the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches. Which brings me to a debate that my brother and I had. I always get low fat stuff for my kids - you know the Edy's Ice Cream that is low fat - only 100 calories per serving etc. When they get soda - which is rare - like in a root beer float - its always diet. He says I shouldn't give them diet - I tell him that if they like the stuff with less fat, then they'll get used to eating low-fat early. Any opinions on this?

I don't cut the fat on anything my kids eat. Low fat has not made America thinner, if anything, it has made us fatter. Way fatter. Fat is a necessity of life, your body needs it. Never, ever diet soda for kids, imho. The chemicals in that stuff alone is enough to scare the pants off of me. I'd rather have my kids make choices in how often they eat the bad stuff, than to have the low fat things. They feel more satiated with the full fat stuff. That being said, on the occasions that we go to the ice cream store, for example (we don't keep it in the house, the only time we buy ice cream for the house is Thanksgiving), BOTH of my kids (ages 10 and 13) get kiddie cones. That is more than enough for them to enjoy. My kids both know that nothing (except soda...which they have no desire to drink) is off limits. They have learned to choose between the cake or cookie at a party. They don't have both. It's a habit, and a lifestyle. Since nothing is off limits, nothing is that "forbidden fruit" that makes them want to desire it even more. Just my opinion, not a judgement.

No, I understand. I don't have anything "forbidden". I think that if you insist that they can't have chocolate EVER, that when they are older that is the first thing they will choose since they weren't ever allowed it. I just try not to have the stuff in the house too often. When I buy ice cream it is always low fat and the kids don't know the difference.

When my kids were little, most everything in the house was home made and organic. We had a cow so youbetcha! we had full fat ice cream. It was no big deal. We also had lots of fruit and veggies and decent snacks. When they were little we used to have "tea" when they got home, with a snack of a teensy sandwich and fruit and/or cookie with milk to tide them over until dinner.
There were healthy choices in the house, and I was determined to not mess with their normal appetites. When they graduated from high school, both girls were under 100 pounds and looked great. Naturally.
I don't think there's a thing wrong with low fat ice cream. I think the issues, especially for teens, are not listening to your body when it tells you you've had enough, and crazy portion size.

We pretty much try to have only whole foods or real foods in the house, not a strict hard and fast rule, but in general. I figure the real fat is better because you actually feel it sooner and have a full feeling sooner. Only real butter and full fat sour cream. We just practice portion control and moderation. One of the thigs I have always done is to serve the portions to the plates and then put the plates on the table - no family-style table, that way the portions are completely controlled and I canmake sure they get more of the veggies and less of the "other stuff" than if they are serving themselves. I think whatever works for your family is what's right! I am blessed in that both of my boys seem to take after their dad with high metabolisms rather then me! LOL They do NOT however like many fruits or veggies - it's a struggle to get them to eat those - I have come to the point of knowing wich ones they will eat and fiding ways to fix the others so they will eat them. How could ANYONE not like fruits and veggies??

Karen, When my daughter would not eat cauliflower, I mashed it into the potatoes. She never knew the difference. A year ago, they only way they would eat broccoli was to smother it in cheese sauce. Then, we graduated to putting cheese sauce on the side as a dipping place. Now, they use grated parmesean. They have tons of broccoli nearly every night, and love it! You can also sneak veggies into tomato sauce. That works like a charm, especially if they are pureed.

LoriB - Califlower and Brocolli are two that my kids WILL eat - thank goodness! Also green beans, carrots and corn (though I keep trying to convince then that corn doesn't count!) I guess what I meant to say was that they rarely eat raw or uncooked veggies - like salad or crudites - which is how *I* like my veggies! As far as tomato sauce - that's one that they'll barely choke down, so no go there, though they are getting better about it. They've pretty much figured out that mom is NOT going to back down so they may as well learn to eat what's cooked. I DID let them each pick ONE food that they'll simply never eat - Ian's is zuchinni - he grows it, just can't stand to eat it, and Phillip's is mushrooms. On the night I make those, they either get an alternative, or they are allowed to pick those out if they're integrated into the meal. That way they feel as if they have some control!

It's no biggie, then.
They don't *have* to eat salad, or raw veggies. At least they eat some of the other stuff!

Awesome Marci! You are flying along. I went through these phases... WW was too much food, then not enough, then too much... I am now in a hungry phase. Part of it is that I just eat fewer veggie based dishes in the winter.
Skinny Cows ice cream sandwiches between 2-3 points, depending on the flavor. My favorite are the choc chip mint ones! You must have tried the "cones" - like drumsticks? It has been too cold since about October 1st for ice cream though.... tasted good when it was 95 degrees out though. I will try those once I thaw.
When summer comes, remind me to give you my recipe for 100 calorie (2 point) margaritas. Now, that is GOOD.

Well I don't wait for warm weather for anything here..if I did I would never eat anything much warm. LOL Its rarely over 70 degrees here, 60 is the norm. Yeah I like the ice cream cones the best of all-so far. Now what is this for 100 calorie margaritas? tell me now-hubby's out of town this weekend I need to do some low cal cooking. Tomorrow is my official weigh in day, hope the weight loss held. LOL
