My quitting diet coke has just been made easier. My good friend has to quit drinking soda because its eating away at her esophagus...so, now I have someone to quit with.

MJ - you can buy that flavor at Hy-Vee too. I get it there all the time, it is in with the coffee isle. I LOVE the Chocolate Carmel. I am throughly addicted. ;D The Orginal India Spice is good too, but it isn't as smooth tasting as the chocolate.
I havn't had a soda in about a month either. I found that it was giving me headaches. It was all the sugar in it. I started drinking Sprite Zero, then I just quit. I did have craving for Mt. Dew, but the headache wasn't worth drinking. Now I don't want it.
You can do this Newfy!!

Thanks TandB, I shop at Hy-Vee so I will look next time I am there. I really want to cut down and then quit on Diet Pepsi. I think I use it as a crutch to help deal with stress. I will start cutting down weekly until I get rid of the habit. Having something to drink like the Chocolate Carmel will help me through.

about 5 years ago.. a woman in her late 40's who lived near us...suddenly became sick.. had to have a kidney removed. drs told her to drink plenty of water daily and never drink any more pop. she was a popoholic. for the next year or so, whenever I saw her she had a bottle of water in her hand. after that.. she went back to pop.
havent heard anymore of her.. she has moved to kentucky

Been lurking here, gathering tips and all, but I just had to chime in on the soda. I used to be seriously dependent on Mt Dew. I had free soda, all day, every day, at my job and was literally averaging 200 ounces of Mt Dew every single day. When I started waking up in the morning with a caffeine with-drawl migraine, I knew I had a problem. It took me a month to wean myself off of it. In two weeks, starting the day I was Mt Dew free, I lost 8 pounds, just from replacing soda with water. Now, even a sip of soda makes me want to gag. Carbonated water, in any form, disgusts me and I flat refuse to eat or drink anything flavored with aspartame. It's the best thing I've ever done for my health. So, I want to say CONGRATS and YOU CAN DO IT to Newfygirl on her breaking free from the bondage of soda!! Deby

That was huge - 200 oz. Man - thats a lot of soda! OK - today is day one of no soda. My friend that I am quitting with said that yesterday she couldn't have soda because she had to get her esophagus scoped and she actually broke into a sweat and shaking because she went without it.... *gulp*

Your friend will go through withdrawl.
The BEST thing is for her to drink a LOT of water, to help remove the toxins from her body.

Gosh, I think that would make me even more determined to get rid of it! She makes it sound like heroin or something.

10:41 and no diet coke yet today... I'm doing ok! My friend would drink two diet pepsis and a 20 oz mountain dew before 10:00 every day.... No wonder she's in withdrawel..

10:41 and no diet coke yet today... I'm doing ok! Great!! When is your real "must have a coke" time? I used to NEED a Dr Pepper in the middle of the afternoon. If you have a "time", make a plan for that time. At this point, I'd say a "unhealthy" snack is better than giving in to the diet coke craving.
