I learned something today. A few days ago, or maybe last week Mary Ann had brought up the very important point of the stuff that carbonates soda and its effect on bones. It pretty much leaches the calcium out of your bones. Ouch. I had asked about carbonated water and if the stuff that carbonated the water had the same effect. I just read today that its only in dark colored soda sooooo....diet sprite, Sierra Mist - stuff like that and carbonated water are ok.

Well, not really OK, but better than the dark stuff. Tis better, down the road, when the person is ready, to completely cut out sodas, both diet and regular.

Well, yes, that is true - but is ok as far as bone density etc is concerned. I have weaned myself down to 1 Diet Cherry coke a day. I was at 4 last summer.

That is good!
When we weaned (LOL) off soda, first we took it out of the house. Then, we had it ONLY when we ate out (which was about twice a week). Then, we allowed it at only one dinner out. Then gone.
It worked very well. My kids have never had soda, they don't have any desire for it, either, which is nice. They are 13 and 10 now.
What drives me bonkers is seeing parents giving their less than one year olds sodas in their strollers. What are they thinking!?!?!?!?

Oh oh oh! My MIL used to do that! She'd actually offer our kids sips from her can of soda when they were babies!!! I had to have my DH have a discussion with her about that.

I tell you my stomach thanks me so much for getting off sodas. I do occasionally have one but not very often anymore. I wonder though what about root beer-real root beer. Its a real treat, and I remember making it one time-boy was that interesting. LOL Some of the bottles exploded all over the place.

Sniff - I love Coke, I could drink Coke all day every day and used to drink 4-6/day until I told myself if you are going to get serious and lose the weight you have to stop the soda.....that was at least 2 years ago and cutting them out didn't make a darn difference to my weight. Go figure, I certainly haven't taken up eating anything else that is over 1,000 calories that I lost when I stopped drinking Coke.
I do allow myself a D. Coke with lime no more than once/day, fortunately it can be hard to find them some times so then I go without.

I have to allow myself my one diet cherry coke. Life is too short for too many sacrifices.
