So I had healthy lunch with Snaffle today...easily digested...so here I am 2 and a half hours later...HUNGRY! I'm making my notes for class or I'd go to the barn. What should I do?!??!! I'm thinking of grabbing a subway sub on my way to class, but that's not till 5!!! I suppose I could cook up a couple eggs for myself... Suggestions?!?!

2 1/2 hours after lunch, you SHOULD be eating.
So, grab some fruit. A piece of toast with PB.
A handful of nuts. (Preferably raw almonds).
Never wait until you are REALLY hungry to eat.
You should be eating 5 times a day.
Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner.

I heard a PT on a talk show saying you should eat every 2-3 hours so you never feel hunger pains. She said when you are feeling hunger pains your blood sugar level is crashing, and you quickly reach the point that no matter what you shovel in, it isn't enough. I am honestly at the point right now because I didn't get to eat lunch at noon so I am scarfing a Lean Cuisine before my conference call starts in 60 seconds.
I have learned to keep a box of protein bars or beef jerky and a case of water in my car because I get hungry in the afternoons since my day starts so early. That way I don't stop and get a bag of chips and a Coke which is what I really want.

I was going to vote fruit.
Lori has excellent advice!
I typically eat breakfast and a separate smoothie anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours apart. I frequently have a morning snack, lunch & often an afternoon snack. I don't normally eat after dinner.
I really try not to let myself get too hungry.

My problem with fruit is that it really messes with my sugar levels. I'll eat it, feel perky for a bit and then get cranky and headachy. A few peanuts (like about 20!) give me some protien and a little fat, I feel like I ate something, and I don't get revved up and then fade. But that's me, I know others do great on fruit! I am also trying some V8 as a snack, I'll see how that works. Try -something- and then listen to your body. If it seems to work, go with it. If it's not working, go to the next thing. I think that's why there are so many diet plans - each one works for *somebody*! the trick is finding the one that works for you

Trailpal, are you hypoglycemic too? If I eat just a piece of fruit I get worse instead of better. But if I pair it with something containing protein and a bit of fat, I do great.

In the wintertime, I find that a bowl of soup is a marvelous snack. I have found these organic "cream of XXX" (butternut squash, roasted red pepper, veggie medley) etc are marvelous! They come in a quart size box, aren't really a cream soup but taste creamy. Depending on the flavor, they are 80-120 calories a cup. Very satisfying for an afternoon snack or instead of a salad with the sandwich.

MA - not sure if I'm hypoglycemic or what... I'm planning to have a thorough exam this year, I plan to bring it up along with some other questions. I suspect if I had an apple with string cheese, it would help level things out. Maybe I'll try that this afternoon... I have a whole bag of granny smiths that won't be going into a crisp (lucky, I like their tartness!)

I do much better when I eat every 2 hours. A few years ago I dropped 50 pounds and I had to eat every 2 hours or I would be famished.
I drove down to Cherokees college that winter... she came out of the barn and I said "I have to EAT!!! It must be close to 11:00"
looked at the clock..and it was 11:05
