I am following the diabetic diet since DH is diabetic, it makes it easier that way. MJ (and anyone else is welcome to chime in) - I didn't want to hijack the other thread - The Live-it plan is also based on the diabetic exchanges. Does your plan give a specific range for each type of exchange? I don't remember the First Place (Live-it) plan exchanges - they are at home. Do you enjoy cooking? I'm not much of a cook, but found several recipes by JoAnn Lund that are easy and list the exchanges. I make her "healthier" pumpkin pie.

I did a "pre-diabetic" diet, lots of protein and veggies, some fats, and low carbs. It was for folks who didn't yet have diabetes but looked like they were headed in that direction. It worked great, I lost around 40 pounds in 6-8 months and felt great. I stablized and did fine, but then life changes and I started back to the pasta and carbs and too-big portions and have gained most of it back. I forget the book, but I know there have been big breakthroughs in understanding carb metabolism, so it is out of date already.
Oh, and it pointed out that there are times when you will feel cold - that means your metabolism is slowing down because of your reduced calories. Instead of eating a little more or putting on a sweater - go do some exercise, even walking around the block a time or two. Its just your body adjusting.
