Got this recipe from a French Canadian woman. It is super easy & really moist and delicious! People always think it has chocolate in it before they know it's dates. The cake does come out a little bit purpley depending on what kind of dates you use... Gateau Mille Piastres (a Quebecios recipe)*Mix well: 2 cups coarsely chopped dates 2 tsp baking soda 2 cups boiling water 1/2 cup butter 1 cup sugar *Let cool slightly (enough to not cook the eggs!) and add 1 or 2 eggs (2 makes it moister, but it doesn't matter much) *Add & mix 1 cup flour 2 tsp baking powder *Pour in a greased 8" square pan (or a 9-10" round pan). Bake at 350 F for 35 min. Optional Topping (I never use it because I don't do coconut) *Heat in a sauceoan until thick 10 tbsp sugar (1/2 cup + 2 tbsp) 6 tbsp butter 6 tbsp table cream (ie heavy cream) 1 cup shredded, unsweetend coconut *Spread on cake after 35 min. Bake for 5-8 more minutes. *If you don't do the topping, check the cake at 35 min- it will probably need another 5 min. This batter is total liquid. You'll be sure it won't work. It looks like it will never bake up solid. But it does! Trust me

Mmmm, I made it and I made the topping, because I DO coconut...and it was delicious! Oooooh, was it good. I decided though, that its practically health food because of the dates... Dates are fruit, so it must be healthy....
