Well, Allisen got up at 4am when Steve did, and wouldn't go back to sleep. So I've been up since then. I went out to start the car, and when I got out of the car, there was a little Shi-tzu dog looking at me. I checked him for ID, and he had no collar or tags. Great! Ugh! I didn't want to see him smashed on the road when I got home, and I don't know of anyone in the area with a dog like this. So I found a collar for him in the house real quick and chained him in the yard. Better to be chained in safety than running in the streets! Went to my training for work, that went well. Stopped at Petsmart and picked up a Pleco for Fred's tank. Got home and found the little dog shivering. So hard his teeth were chattering! I felt so bad for him, but I'd been running late in the morning and didn't have time to do more for him. I brought him in the house (which ROYALLY pissed off my dogs!) and decided to put him down in the basement. His hair is too long and matted to be sure if he has fleas or not, and he is filthy and stinky. Very friendly, though! I debated having the dog warden pick him up, but just coudln't do it. So I left him a message that I found the dog, in case anyone reported him missing, but said that I was going to hold onto him. Posted a couple signs around town that I had him. Then I thought about calling the local dog groomer. He looks like he's seen a groomer in the last couple months, but hasn't been brushed since then. Bob (the groomer) coudln't think of anyone in my area with a male Shi-tzu, but he told me that whatever I do, don't take him to the pound (wasn't going to!) and if I can't find his owner he'll take him and keep him until he can find the owner or someone who wants him. With the looks of his coat, he's either very neglected or has been running loose for quite a while. And I haven't seen any ads in the paper for a missing Shi-tzu, so sadly, I think it's the first one. Poor guy. He's very friendly though. When I called him up to me, he came running and jumped on me, and licked my hand. Walked right with me when I put the chain on him. He won't eat my dry dog food (Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice) so I offered him a can of Pedigree and he wolfed that down. So he was hungry, but not hungry enough to eat *just anything* LOL! And he's not used to food like thid either, judging from the stinky mess he left on the basement floor! I put a couple towels in a box for him and he knew exactly what that was for. Went right in, laid down, and licked my hand. So I tucked him in for the night. I feel bad about him being down there, but it's at least 50 or 60 degrees down there right now, so he's not freezing and shivering. He's got a soft bed to lay in, and he's got a bowl of food and water. BUT if I don't hear from his owner before Bob's shop closes tomorrow, I'll take him over there. The basement's dry right now, but if we get any precipitation it'll get wet down there quickly and I don't want him down there and getting sick. The thought of keeping him if I couldn't find his owners briefly entered my mind, but the way Sammi and Lucky went nuts when I brought him in the house told me that it probably woudln't be a wise choice! So he'll be here tomorrow for a while, then he either goes home with his owners or goes to Bob! I'm going to call the local vet if he has hours tomorrow to see if he might know who he belongs to.
And now I think I'm going to bed. I am EXHAUSTED!!!!!!!
