When Ali and I were at the lake today, I heard spring peepers!!!! And there were gnats in the air...
spring can't be far away now! The redbuds should bloom in the next couple of weeks. They always come out before things get green...

I am awash with envy!!! We don't even have robins yet; those don't generally arrive until around March 8-10. And peepers? Not here for quite a while. Enjoy them, you lucky duck!

I know what a Peeper ;D is but I have never heard of a 'spring' one - . All the things I learn on this board!!! We are having two days of nice weather - then the next storm is in the forecast. I went through the whole property today and looked for any standing water in containers etc. . I cleaned the Fountain and there must have been hundreds of mosquito larvae. It was gross..

What is a spring peeper? We only have Robins in the winter here - isn't that weird?

Spring peepers are little tree frogs that make a horrendous racket! They have really loud voices for little creatures. It's one of the first signs of spring around here...
alas, it's supposed to get real cold again, down to 16 on Tuesday.. I guess the peepers came out a little early!

And here, I thought you were talking about those little yellow & pink marshmallow sugar chick things. I much prefer the froggie kind, myself...though I know of a few horses who would stand on thier hind legs & do semaphore for the candy kind.

LOL! Ex Libris, not spring peepers, you're thinking of Marshmallow Peeps! I know a few horses that'll dance pretty fancy for Peeps, too! ;D

We've been hearing them for about a month now. Just never called them that. Here, they are just frogs.

I sure wish we had spring froggies here...this morning, we had a bunch of snow instead. Y'know, I know a girl who roasts marshmallow peeps like they're regular marshmallows...she says the sugar on the outside caramelizes. I'd almost rather eat a Mrs. Pasture's cookie than a Peep...

I found a new horsey cookie that makes the horses just bug-eyed and begging. They're called Mellow Mints, and I get them from my feed store guy. OMG, they smell like a box of Girl Scout cookies!!! I'd ordered a couple of small trial size bags to try some of the different flavors, and these appear to be the favorite. This time, I ordered a big bag. These fall into the same category as Mrs. Pasture's: High Value Treats. But they're slightly smaller, and much less expensive.

Oh, my horses loff the small peppermint treats that I think are made by Farnam. They come in a 5 pound bag for $5.99.
Buckeye also makes good peppermint treats. My horses will do cartwheels for them!
