I found a really terrific deal on a cruise for the kids spring break. We have never done anything like this - we love travel but have always been very budget, even cheapo oriented (we hauled the kids around much of Europe by car staying in funky little hotels when we lived in Germany). I have frequent flier miles for the airfare to get to the departing port so the whole thing seems pretty reasonable, as far as 5 star cruises go anyway.
My oldest son in particular has been so depressed and distant since his step sister died last fall, talking about doing this is the first thing he has been interested in in months. It seems so extravagant, but we haven't taken a real vacation in about 3 years and I guess I am looking for a way for the family to relax and have fun together.
Have any of you traveled on cruises with teens? Was it fun for everyone? I still need to check into the cost of the day excursions since that is extra; the idea of actually buying into some kind of tour where they do the driving is very foreign to me (you are talking to the woman crazy enough to drive from Munich to Rome and Naples!)

I haven't, as I'm not much of a traveler, but I wish you well! And I hope the heartache lifts for your son.

every year on a cruise. This includes SIL as well as his daughters and now three grandchildren. They love doing the cruises. They have done Alaska, two Caribbean and this year it is going to be a Mexican cruise.
If it is a good line, there seems to be a lot of activities for all ages. The really good thing is in the kid's area is that it is well supervised (and I think this includes teenagers,) adults are not allowed in so you can leave them and not have to worry about other's having access to them.
Great idea, hope you have a wonderful time.
