A dear friend who has a really rough home life with an alcoholic husband and a lot of little kids and a tough job at a nursing home is doing something really dangerous.
I've talked to her about it, but it's not getting through so I'm hoping some prayers might help.
Her supervisor at the nursing home gave my friend, B., some of the supervisor's prescription Prozac. B is feeling better and working even harder now.
I have no doubt she suffers from depression, but taking someone else's drugs that alter your neuro chemistry is an exceedingly dangerous thing to do!
My friend says she can't afford to go to the doctor and get her own prescription. I've tried to tell her how dangerous it is to take drugs like this without a medical doctor guiding you... and then how dangerous it will be for her when her supervisor quits dispensing them!
As you all know, I'm not against taking anti depressants if you really need them, but golly, this is a very bad way to do it. Everyone's body and brain chemistry is so different. Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error even with a doctor's help to find the right drug and the right dosage for an individual.
I take a child's dosage of the drug I'm on. Anything more than that would send me into orbit, I'm sure!
And I've learned that most of the suicides that are linked to antidepressants occur when someone quits taking the drugs, especially if the person goes cold turkey and doesn't have a doctor supervising the process....
geesh... I'm so worried for her. Several of us are trying to steer her in the right direction, but she won't listen. We have a county mental health department with a resident psychiatrist and they charge a sliding scale fee, so no one is turned away...
I hope no one here does what this friend is doing and no one shares medicine with another person. It's really a bad, bad risk...
