I am itching from my butt to my ears! The doctor prescribe me some Tessa Pearls for my persistent cough. I took two about 5 p.m. NOw I'm sitting here covered with hives and it's itching like mad.
I've taken them before and never had this problem, but this time it's not working. It is stopping my cough, but this itch is horrendous.... ugh.....
I took two benadryl and it's helping some....I told DH to watch me closely.. if i have trouble breathing to get me to a hospital fast!

Geesh I was gonna say take some benadryl but then I saw you had already done that. I hope it subsides soon. You must have built up an allergy to it. Did you know that you are never allergic to something the very first time you are exposed to it? You have to have at least one exposure before you can become allergic. Even if you don't remember that first exposure.

I hope you'll be all right, Chris--stay close to the phone!
When I was a teenager, I had a cold with a bad cough and for several days took heavy doses of Vicks 44. About the fourth day, I suddenly broke out in huge hives just like what you're talking about. I even had them in my mouth and throat, which was very scary. It must be something about cough medicines! (does yours have dextromethorphan?) I've never had an allergic reaction to anything before or since (except poison ivy)--so if you're reacting to the same ingredient I did, hopefully this will be a one-time thing.

Geez, Chris! I hope you're okay this morning! Check in and let us know. Scratch with care with your new nails! Isn't it nice that you have them right now?

Littlejoe, I've been taking cough syrup with dextrometherphan and that doesn't bother me, but it wasn't working either.
What the doctor prescribed is called Tessa Pearls, benzonatate.
sigh...
But I am better this morning.
