I just got done watching the State of the Union Address. Did anybody else see it? It was all pretty much what you'd expect. A woman from Iraq was brought there that three days ago voted for the first time. The House applauded her. Then later, a woman and her husband were introduced as the parents of a Marine who died in service to his country in Iraq. The mom wrote to the President saying that the last time she saw her son, she told him that she wished she could protect him like she did when she was little. The son smiled and said to his mother that it was his turn to protect her. As they stood in their grief for the applause of a greatful nation, the Iraqi woman turned and embraced her. OMG, the grace of both women.

Well I believe I meant a grateful nation. We have a preview button; why don't I use it?

Well, I'm getting a bit cynical about a lot of stuff. I was thankful I had a meeting to go to and missed most of the speech.

I can understand your cynicism, because no doubt both roles were carefully orchestrated. But the grief on that soldier's mom's face was real and immediate; I believe she felt she was paying tribute to her son. And that Iraqi woman's hug looked totally spontaneous. It was very human. The applause went on and on.
Who was it who recently said only women should be allowed to rule, because of our peaceful, conciliatory ways? Nelson Mandela?

I'm glad I missed it too. My husband and I agree that it was carfeully orchestrated. I have no doubt that the grief was real. I would've started bawling though when I heard her story. My husband is Active Duty. We just found out Monday that we will probably be leaving Kansas April 1st so that he can go to Ft Hood, Texas to be in a unit that is going to Iraq this fall for a year. I guess that even though everything was orchestrated at least they sort of recognized the fact that many lives have been lost.

voter fraud safeguards than the United States.
It really annoys me to hear what people like ex-Klansman Byrd has said about all that has been accomplished. (Social Security so important now? Why didn’t the Democrats fix it when they were in control for 40 YEARS?)
Social Security and Welfare are DESIGNED to KEEP the poor poor, because the poor predominantly vote Democrat. (I call it “Breeding votes”.)
I apologize if I have offended or hurt feelings. If this post is possibly too hurtful, please delete it.
I’ll shut up now.

Me, too...
I missed most of it to my dismay from being at church last night. But what I did see was very touching and encouraging.
