So Linda inspired me with her post about her new book on the other board. What are you reading right now? Is it good? What's it about? Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? Do you read more in summer or in winter? Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed? Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same? How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading? Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction? If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be?

What are you reading right now?
I'm still working my way through two nonfiction books, "Why Weight" by Geneen Roth, and "Learning Their Language" by Marta Williams. I recently finished "Kinship With All LIfe"
Is it good?
Yes, they all are good.
What's it about?
Kinship and Language are about communicating with animals. Why Weight is a workbook to explore the emotional reasons for being overweight.
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again?
Yes, I never finished WAr and Peace by Tolstoy and never finished The Satanic Verses. It was boring as all get out. I don't know what the fuss was about! I've also never been able to wade through the Tolkien novels...probably the only aged hippie in America who never read them.
Do you read more in summer or in winter?
Depends on how long the weather sucks.
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed?
Haha, the bathroom. Or Living Room, or waiting rooms.
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same?
I'm sorry to say less. But I've also read less when I've worked as a reporter. Guess I needed something besides words to entertain me.
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading?
Depends on how interested I am in the book. Sometimes I'll pick one up and read all the way through and have to be reminded about things like chores and feeding humans! I did that with "American Massacre" By Sally Denton
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction?
Mostly nonfiction
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be?
Anna Karenina

What are you reading right now? A few more pages to finish in Bill Dorrance's True Horsemanship Through Feel and then to Tom Dorrance's True Unity. I have high hopes that I understand Tom Dorrance better now (I just saw his video a couple of days ago){/color]
Is it goodOf course, or I wouldn't bother What's it about? Horses, of course
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? not often Do you read more in summer or in winter?probably winter--days are too long in the summer
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed?you left off airplanes and in hotel rooms--just about anyplace but in a car. I even read my mail as I ride back up from picking up the mail on my horse (picking up mail is one of her favorite tasks)
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same?probably more, because I find out about books that I NEED--and also, about the same time, it became easier to publish books for small audiences--like us horsemen
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading?I read in spurts--I always have a book going on the bedstand, but sometimes I get really inspired by some great books and then spend a lot more time.
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction?non-fiction
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be?I wouldn't want to go inside a book--I would have wanted to have taken my horse and gone to live on Bill Dorrance's ranch for a few years and worked and studied. I just learned that Tom Dorrance lived on the ranch as well. Linda

What are you reading right now? Today I read Anne Boleyn by Evelyn Anthony.
Is it good? Yup.
What's it about? Second wife of Henry VIII.
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? Never. Even if it's boring, I make myself finish it.
Do you read more in summer or in winter? Probably winter, just because I'm not outside as much.
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed? Yes.
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same? More, I think. I can keep up on my favorite authors easier, and put my requests in at the library sooner.
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading? Couple hours daily.......(???)
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction? Both. I read anything/everything. I adore Anne Rice and Dean Koontz, Woodiwiss and McBain......and I love history.
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be? The Bible.

What are you reading right now? TEXT I'm re-reading Wizard and Glass, so that it's fresh in my memory when I get Wolves of Calla in a couple weeks!
TEXT
What's it about? TEXT Roland's journey to the Dark Tower. This particular book actually goes back and tells the story of Roland, Cuthbert, and Alain's teenage years, immediately after Roland became a gunslinger. It's very tragic, but such a wonderful tale. I can't wait for Calla!TEXT
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? TEXTVery, Very rarely. The only book I can think of that I haven't finished is "Gerald's Game". I just couldn't get into it, and I found my mind wandering off as I read, and having to reread the pages over and over. I finally gave up.TEXT
Do you read more in summer or in winter?TEXT Pretty equally. I generally read before bed.TEXT
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed?TEXT BedTEXT
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same? TEXT About the sameTEXT
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading?TEXT Anywhere from 1-8 hours, depending on how well I'm sleeping!TEXT
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction? TEXTFiction, although I really like wesern historical fictions. Ralph Compton is one of my favorite authors.TEXT
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be? TEXT This is a difficult one. Probably something by Susanna Kearnsley. . .Named of the Dragon or Shadowy Horses. She describes her settings so beautifully, setting up the story. . .it really feels like you are there!

So Linda inspired me with her post about her new book on the other board.
What are you reading right now?
Nothing
Is it good?
NA
What's it about?
NA
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again?
I have done this a few times in my life but once was because it wasn't my book and I lost access to it, once was because I simply got busy and the book was just not that interesting and once was because the book was just seriously disturbing, no wait I take that back, twice the book was just seriously disturbing. I very rarely do this though.
Do you read more in summer or in winter?
I used to read more in winter, nowadays I rarely read at all.
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed?
Used to be chair or bed.
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same?
About the same, what has changed my reading habits is not the internet but a certain 3 year old child. I just don't have time to read anymore. Unless I'm reading her a bedtime story. I read Lightening strikes twice a Woodsey adventure to her today before work does that count?? LOL
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading?
None unless you count magazine articles, children's books, or paperwork at my job.
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction?
Used to be a fairly even mix of both.
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be?
That would probably depend on the day and my mood. And whether or not I would be an active participant or a fly on the wall. I would like to go into the Bible and be a fly on the wall, but I wouldn't want to be a participant that would be too scary. The children's book King of the Wind always fascinated me a child and made me want to visit Morroco. Right now in the dreary winter grayness, I would pick a book about summer or the beach or something.

What are you reading right now? Fox River by Emilie Richards; I've also read the first few pages of City of Lights by Thomas Kincaid - that will be next and I'm hoping I like it because there are at least 4 in the series. I am also in the midst of Centered Riding - it is by the exercise bike but with the OT at work the last 10 days I haven't picked it up recently - maybe today.
Is it good? So far
What's it about? A guy is in prison for a murder he didn't commit and working with puppies being trained as guide dogs while in prison. In the meantime, he probably doesn't know that his gf was pregnant and married someone else when he was sent to prison ~ 9 years ago. The gf had a riding accident, and is now blind - but they are saying hysterical blindness with no physical cause. He is about to get out because someone else is confessing to the murder. She doesn't really love her husband.
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? I'm learning to. I read a lot and select books based on searches at the libarary. That is how I found Fox River. Sometimes I will find myself "making" myself read a book I'm not enjoying. I'm learning that it is OK to just decide I don't want to finish that book.
Do you read more in summer or in winter? probably winter
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed? mostly while eating (if I'm not on internet while eating) and a little while before sleeping at night. If I read during the day, I often lie in bed to read.
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same? less - I use to read at almost every meal. Eating and reading is an "escape" for me.
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading? Hard to say - 2 hours a day avg??
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction? fiction
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be - a book where people get along, with horses and a big stable, etc??

What are you reading right now?
Just finished Tony Hillerman's Sacred Clowns, and I'm working on Olive King Dixon's biography of her husband Billy Dixon, and Dying Thunder by Terry Johnston
Is it good?
I'm on a Tony Hillerman kick right now - love ALL of his stuff, which is really funny because I'm not usually much of a mystery reader. So yeah, it's very good. The biography and Dying Thunder are both research books. Billy Dixon was a great character and I'm enjoying that. Dying Thunder is a YAWN, but I'm forcing my way through it.
What's it about?
Sacred Clowns is a muder mystrey set in the Tano Pueblo and the Navajo Rez. Billy Dixon is just about his life, and Dying Thunder is about the battle at Adobe Walls and the Red River war.
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again?
Nope - no matter how hard I have to force myself, although I do read several books at one time, and sometimes will put one down for days or weeks at a time, I always come back and finish them.
Do you read more in summer or in winter?
Winter
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed?
All of the above and my favorite - in a hot bubble bath.
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same?
Probably more - I go in spurts, though.
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading?
At least a couple hours a day on average.
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction?
About equal
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be?
Right now, probably one of Hillerman's

But here goes. “What are you reading right now?” RE-RE-Reading Unintended Consequences by John Ross. “Is it good?”
I SHOULD SAY SO! ;D FIVE people who each profess “I don’t care to read. Sorry! It’s just not my thing.” Have actually taken days off WORK to finish the last 200 pages! I believe it should be required reading! “What's it about?” It’s a historically accurate novel about the history of the United States and the direction the Country is headed. “Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again?” Yes. “Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed?”
My recliner and the bed. “Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same?”
About the same. “How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading?”
A total of about 2 hours a day. “Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction?”
Non-fiction “If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be?”
Death in the Long Grass ;D

What are you reading right now? Killer Pancake, by Diane Mott Davidson. Is it good? Oh yeah! I love her books. What's it about? The main character is a caterer who is married to a homicide detective, and she catered an event where somebody got murdered, and she's awfully nosy & helps her hubby solve the case (whether he wants her to or not ). Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? Yeah, but not often...there were a couple that were so horribly written that I just couldn't bear to finish them (they were that awful!). There are a couple others that I put down & couldn't get back to for a long time, and one of these days I'll get around to finishing them...I just haven't gotten there yet. Do you read more in summer or in winter? Winter, I think...I used to read more often in the summer, when I had time to go lay in the sun for an afternoon, but now I have kids, & nowhere to lay in the sun (apartment life bites). I do love curling up in a big fluffy blanket in the winter, especially in a sunny window, and reading for hours. It's one of the best things about January! Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed? Who reads at a desk? That seems so uncomfortable... I generally read in bed at night, but I also like to curl up someplace soft & comfy & warm, like the couch in the sun or a gooshy chair with a blankie. Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same? Less, I'm sorry to say. How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading? Nowhere NEAR enough!!! Probably only 4-6 hours a week. Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction? I mostly read fiction cover to cover...non fiction tends to get skimmed for the important or pertinent parts. The great exception there is history, especially oral history...that gets read cover to cover. I'd say the balance is about equal. If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be? Gads, how do you pick? Lesfire has a really good point, are you an active participant or a fly on the wall? I'd happily be a fly on the wall in any history book. It would be interesting to be an omniscient active participant in an Ann Rule book...it'd be fun to know who the bad guy is & go stomp him. ;D

I am so lost in that series right now. I read the third book in a week and got nothing else accomplished. I started book 4 yesterday, so nothing continues to get accomplished not that you can when we are so unusually frozen over now.
I usually read fiction, I spend less time on the net or even in front of the tv because I would much rather read than do anything else (that doesn't include the horse).
I read year round as much as I possibly can.
I don't think I would like to live inside a book. A book is only a gateway for your imagination. I personally prefer reality.

What are you reading right now?
Five minutes ago I finished a Spencer detective story by Robert B. Parker called Back Story. It was pretty good, except he killed five men in the course of his snooping around and rationalized it with his psychologist girlfriend that it was okay because he needed to do it to realize his personality, or some such secular humanist nonsense. I've been reading these books for decades and I have watched the character's brand of secular humanism crumble into "if it feels good, do it." Pretty poor philosophy, in my opinion.
The book before that book was by an excellent author, Jim Harrison, called True North, about the grandson of a "robber baron" trying to justify his family having left fifty million acres of stumps in Michigan, clear cutting the primeval forest.
Is it good? True North was very good. I can still visit the characters in my mind.
What's it about? see above.
Do you ever put a book down unfinished, and never pick it up again? Well, I hate to admit that I haven't finished Bill Clinton's autobiography. Man, that guy really worked hard. It wore me out just to read it.
Do you read more in summer or in winter? I read a lot, winter and summer.
Where do you read? Livingroom chair? At a desk? Bed? Comfortable great room chair, bed, bathtub, sometimes when I'm walking the dog. I get bored watching him sniff the same blade of grass ten million times.
Since the internet, do you read books more, less, or about the same?
Less. There are only so many hours in the day.
How much time on a daily/weekly basis do you spend reading? I read from seven to ten books a week. I have no idea how much time I read, but it's nothing for three hours to pass without me realizing it when I'm reading.
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction? Fiction. The last non fiction book I read was a book about animal communication that Chris recommended.
If you could magically go live inside a book and visit awhile, which book would it be? The New Testament. I look forward to worshiping at Jesus' feet after I pass through the pearly gates. I would love to have met my G-d on earth.
Frosty
