Anyone here collect them? Where do you buy them? I have wanted to start for a while, but can't find a local retailer. I am guessing that I will have to take the plunge and buy off of ebay. Any suggestions on where to start, or websites that you have had luck with? Thanks Tricia PS, this is a cross post from another board ;D

I've seen them at the Hallmark store in our mall. Maybe you could check your local Hallmark store(s) and luck out.
I got one from Kel during a StableMinds Secret Santa exchange last year and I loff it!

The State Line catalog I just received has Painted Ponies--way in the back. Linda

Tricia, My husband got me the snowflake painted pony and the Trail of Painted Ponies book. He bought them in Weston, MO just north of Kansas City. If you go to the painted pony web site you may be able to buy directly from them. www.trailofpaintedponies.com/Vicki

Help me out, guys.... I don't get this one. What's the attraction? We had cows like this all over Chicago for a season, and then they were auctioned off. Life sized cows, painted by local artists, one of a kind. I've wondered where people put them when they get them home. I know the painted ponies are small; I've seen them at the tack shops. Are there special stories to go with each one or something? Or are they just fun? Not like much associated with horses has ever made a lot of sense.....

But I know when it started, large businesses were contacted to "sponsor" an artist to do each pony. I know this because my uncle owned a large gas station chain and he sponsored one. I don't remember what the name of it was, I wasn't that impressed with it. It seems like it had an engine attached to the hind quarters. (Which kind of goes along with owning a chain of gas stations, maybe?) Anyway, I don't think all the ponies got to be models, because I have never seen a model of the one that my uncle's company sponsored.

Mary Ann, I just like the Native American versions. Some of the other themes seem a bit outlandish (the Harley davidson comes to mind). The reason that I wanted a few is to put in this cabinet in my office. It is kind of like a china cabinet with glass doors. It has always been empty, and I don't have anything at home that I would bring up here. I'm not out to start an all out collection, just thought a few of them would brighten up my dull dry office.

Tricia, that sounds like a kewl idea for the office; a nice touch of home, and a conversation starter. I'd probably like the Indian ones best, too!

Great idea for an office! That way you can be reminded of your horses, while everyone else thinks it is art! Smart gal here. I agree, some of those painted ponies are quite strange. The Native American versions are very intriguing. What a neat office idea!
Instead of painted cows, like Mary Ann had in Chicago, we have painted moose on the street corners in Coeur d'Alene. I think I prefer the real moose that hang around here instead. Linda
