Just got an nasty call from a top person at the rescue we got Rocky from. They are hopping mad that I said they wouldn't take him back and they are demanding him back tomorrow. Sigh..........
Now I'm i a tug of war between two rescues.. this just sucks...
All we want is for Rocky to have a good home, just not here.
I hope they will do that for him. Ray is very upset.

Man, Chris. This just won't end. That was awfully presumptive for you to get a nasty phone call- how did they know what you said?? Surely they see that it was all a misunderstanding...? How did it get from them saying they wouldn't take him back to them demanding him back? Wow, talk about the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing... this has gotten ridiculous.

I am SO sorry Chris. I can't imagine a rescue acting this way. . .I just can't fathom it. My thoughts and prayers are with you. . .this must be just impossibly difficult.

Sounds to me like the main rescue that was going to take him bakc got in touch with this rescue and either went up one side and down the other or told them they were taking the dog back because they wouldn't. Guilt? At any rate you are NOT to blame. No wonder rescues get a bad name, geeze. Makes me think twice about adopting thru one.

I guess the RRUS read something I posted on a ridgie board and got pissed... sigh....
the main rescue is being very nice and said if we ever want another one to contact them...
The person who is picking up Rocky tomorrow told me that Ridgies hate goats and will kill them at anyopportunity, but that they get along with other livestock OK.
However, a lady in Colo told me that her sister lives on a farm with 10 ridgebacks and goats and has not had problems,...
sigh, such conflicting information!

I've never heard such a thing regarding goats. I think that may be a bit of a generalization. And besides that, it seems a little random. I have heard many tales of RRs (not to mention other breeds) killing chickens, for instance, but by her account, they should be fine. I think you have to take general statments like that with a grain of salt. At any rate, glad national rescue is being decent.

Katie was death on cats and possums. She ws Ok with our own cats, but woe to any stray that came into the yard.
We didnt' mind her killing possums. That was a good thing.
But she never bothered the livestock.
I think you're right Mandy. I think it has more to do with the individual dog, it's bloodlines and the way it was raised.
sigh... all we wanted was for Rocky to find another good home. It doesn't matter which rescue takes him back as long as someone does and he is cared for.

They are at fault. I'm so sorry for this new trouble. On the bright side, at least it will spare you the long trip and expense. (((HUGS))!

Sorry you're going thru this Chris. I think that whoever told you that they hate goats is full of poopie. That is like saying that all Arabians are "hot" or something along those lines.
((((hugs)))))

My RR loved our little black goat, so you certainly cannot generalize like that. Sorry you are going through this, but on the bright side.... there's always Friday!

Chris, make sure you tell them who it was with the rescue that told you they wouldn't take the dog back. I'm guessing someone dropped the ball and the top person(s) just found out about it but didn't get the whole scoop. I'd be willing to bet the person who told you they wouldn't take Rocky back told the top person s/he had no idea what you were talking about when you said that.
I'm sorry about your nanny goat and I'm sorry Rocky didn't work out and I'm sorry the rescue is raking you over the coals.
Hugs, Tina

Well, apparently it was all a big mixup, sigh... I wish people would say what they mean and not leave us to figure it out!
The rescue coordinator told me she couldn't take the dog back. Period. but apparently what she meant was she couldn't take him back right then as she was going on a trip out of the country and she'd deal with it when she got back.
But that's not what she told us, so I figured we were left hanging in the wind by ourselves to do something....
then the officers of the rescue read my post on the RR board and got pretty hot and everything snowballed!
Anyway, Rocky is gone. A volunteer came to get him today, a nice young man who works for the fish and wildlife dept. in Missouri, and who seems to really know RRs. He is going to be Rocky's foster dad for awhile.
Rocky just happily leaped into Matt's truck without a second thought, so I think he'll be Ok with changing homes.
And they know not to place him on a farm.

Well, they say, "All's well that ends well...", but they sure ran you through the wringer getting to that point! Someday maybe you will be able to laugh about it--at least parts of it--but no time soon. It sounds like Rocky is on his way to a happy home--and that is all that was wanted in the first place.
I agree with all those who said that the local rescue's mind was changed by those higher up when they heard your story. That makes people backtrack on their stories real fast. Thank goodness you stayed right there on their backs, and now they are doing the right thing for the right reason.
It is my job to do what you just got done doing. It is great fun to watch people backtrack and claim they were misunderstood, etc. I think I have heard just about every excuse in the book. But people like us make it better for those who come behind. Linda
