I'm going to make a general post here, and then lock this thread. This is a general post. It applies to every post on every thread, but this is the one I'm locking.
Chris and I feel strongly about creating and maintaining a board where everyone can speak of the things going on in their lives without fear of flames. We want a Flame Free Zone here.
Please understand that it's not about content, but about delivery.
I feel that a person can say just about anything in a way that's kind and helpful, or in a way that's insulting and destructive. Choose your words with care on this board! I will delete anything and everything that's impolite.
Since this is Chris's board, and she has asked me to moderate with her, the rules are ours. It's not a democracy, or a monarchy, or anything else; it's a message board. We welcome polite discussions on any topic you choose, but you must be polite. If you can't do that, then expect to be deleted. I am adamant about this.
If you're not sure what constitutes politeness, think about how the message is likely to be received. First, use the Golden Rule, and treat others as you would want to be treated. Then, use some history to evaluate how the message you send is likely to be received by that person, and alter your word choice accordingly. Some people have thick skins and can be spoken to abruptly; others are more sensitive and need to be treated more gently. Also, the circumstances of a subject can make a person who is ordinarily thick skinned very vulnerable, so use this too to choose your words with care. If you really want to help and not to bash, then adjust your message so it will be heard.
I promise you, regardless of who is posting about what, if these basic tenets of good manners are not followed, I will delete the post. There have been more than seventeen hundred posts so far on this board, and just about all of them have been helpful, civil, and fun. I want you all to know that you can post in peace here. This is a Flame Free Zone.
I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but that's just the way it is. Our game, our ball, our rules. If you don't like it, there are a gazillion other message boards out there; go find one more to your liking.
