The rescue dog in LA didn't work out - foster mom said he was made nervous by quick movements and shy around new people. But Monday night I happened to notice an ad on a facebook group I belong too to rehome a purebred chocolate lab. He is nearly a year old but the owners had 2 young kids + an 11 year old on a traveling softball team so they were gone almost every weekend and felt it wasn't fair to the dog. They wanted him to go to a home where he could be outside most of the time because he is young and needs to run but also because he has a birth defect called hypospadias - his urethra didn't develop right and the hole is near the back of his thingy instead of the tip and his thingy is exposed instead of within the normal flap of skin. So he needs to pee more often than an average dog but I guess vets told him that it was a $2000 surgery to fix it and it would be purely cosmetic. He was also born without a tail. We went and looked at him Wed night and brought him home. He's still getting things figured out but seems to be fitting in well. Caiden has claimed him as his own. We bought him some toys and a tennis ball chucker yesterday so he was pretty tired out by bedtime last night.

Given the power of a lab tail, being born without one is probably a blessing for the owners

I agree with Dorothy. Now you won't have a dented refrigerator. He sounds like a great fit for your family. Labs are great dogs--especially for kids.

Sweet. I hope Caiden enjoys many years of growing up with his dog.

Lovely dog. He looks like a big ole doofus dog. Just perfect for kids. We had an aussie that had to have his urethra cleaned out of stones and the result of the scar tissue was that he peed through a hole like that. He was as housebroke as he ever was-not saying much really. LOL But a doggy door made it easy. Lab without a tail, that might be perfect. LOL Those tails can cause a lot of damage.
