Shadow has been not eating well since Friday. We suspect sand colic so have been giving her all the stuff for that. Vet said it might be blockage up higher than she could reach. Might be her melanomas causing it too. She is still eating a bit and we have banimene on board but it's not looking great. We need poop. I am at home now to eat, started getting shaky for lack of. Could use prayers for her. But it's a crap shoot now. She was allergic to the antibiotics, so not an option. Surgery isn't an option. I hear gut sounds so the hope is her guts are just empty. I will update. And my big brother is coming into town today on his honeymoon. The last time he got married I had a sick horse too. It eventally died. I hope history doesn't repeat. But I am losing hope.

This is too weird. You and Shadow have been in my mind every few hours for days. I'd been wondering how you two were doing. I'm so sorry to hear that things aren't going well.
Prayers going up for this dear old girl. I hope she recovers without incident.

On facebook Marci posted that she is doing better - not out of the woods completely, but pooping and eating and progressing!

We have a heat wave on the PNW and lack of our usual spring rains. Keeping lots of water in our horses is much more challenging than usual. They aren't getting to moisture in the pasture grasses. More like, WHAT pasture grasses.....

She is eating and pooping normall. And getting her feisty temperament back. One good thing about this is we have rebonded. After Mark died she acted like she was angry with me. I did neglect her for a long time. Not that she didn't get fed but I didn't groom her or spend time talking to her and really being there with her and she was upset. I tell you Shadow is a prima Donna and the world revolves around her. LOL But her being sick really taught me how much I want her to still be here. And she forgave me, finally. Kerry thinks it may have been salmonella, I'm not so certain. She was sick a couple weeks before but I think it was food poisoning at her house. A couple of the residents were a bit off too at the time. I think because the hay that she bought (I work at her house one day for my horses hay) was not up to par but this brownish yucky hard to chew stuff that Shadow found too hard to eat she was trying to graze the fence line and get some grass. She lives in a sand paddock and injected sand. We make sure to feed on mats. But it doesn't stop them from eating it other times. The vet only found a small amount in the tiny bit of poop. But a week of psyllium and mashes have her cleaned out again. And new tender hay. Vet also said her teeth are decent but short. She is 29 so they won't last forever. So she probably couldn't chew the course hay. Oh and she is allergic to sulfa drugs. As if having a tummy ache wasn't enough she got hives from that. She lost some weight but is now eating to beat the band bad one good thing is she is now pooping outside her stall. She used to poop all in her stall then stand in it. Now she goes outside to poo. At least for most of them. I am going to be taking she pictures of her in her finery in about a week. Who knows how long I will be graced with her presence (is it any wonder she is a prima donna?) The old grey mare ain't what she used to be but she is still darn fine. LOL oh and I am heading down to California for a wedding! My oldest brother is getting married on the 1st. They were just up here to visit on the honeymoon, they did it first. And I spent a day with her and stayed at their place last Christmas. I like this choice. I hope 3rd times the charm for him. Should be, they have known each other for 45 years. And then yesterday I got my car fixed. It had been making this funny noise but drives fine for a while. Well it got way worse last week so I took it in to steel myself to it needing a new tranny. It was the bearings in the front tires. So I might be broke for a while but I still have a car! LOL I drove the loner car and wow, mine is a better car than a lot out on the road. Now I remember why I chose Mom's caddy instead of keeping the Bronco. I hope it gets quiet again now.

Well Shadow is back to her ornery self. Instead of the sweet horse that let you love on her she is back to the more normal "feed me slave" temperament. In fact that was one of the ways we first was noticed she wasn't feeling well. The person who feeds in the morning said she was sweet and let me pet her without making a face. Well she is back to her nasty faces again. The old girl is going to be ok. Thank you everyone for all the prayers. I do so believe they work.
