I FINALLY got brave (and saved enough money) to go in and have Lasik done. Went in on Thursday, and spent the rest of the day keeping track of when to put in which eye drops. LOL Went back today for my follow-up. The Dr. removed the bandage contact and said everything looks great and my vision is 20/20. There is supposed to be a "hinge" on the flap they cut, but the laser cut the entire flap so there is no "hinge" on my eyes. It's not a problem at all, but he did say to be careful doing things and try not to get anything in my eye for at least a week, but two would be better. IF the flap does become dislodged, it's no big deal, a new one will grow back, but I may need antibiotics in the meantime. So, I'm taking a couple weeks off from agility and keeping the dogs out of the bedroom. I'm also wearing the sleep goggles an extra few nights (only required to wear it one night)
Came home and threw out all my opened contact stuff (timed it perfectly! Only had part bottles of saline solution left) and eye makeup, they suggest using all new after surgery, and not wearing any for a week following. I have a lot more room on my bathroom counter now! Just need to donate my glasses somewhere.

It is great! I had it done many years ago!
Do NOT put your face in the shower stream for those 2 weeks also. Wash your face with a wash cloth only and rinse with the washcloth as well.

Congratulations, I think about trying LASIK now and again, when its raining and my glasses don't work but that isn't that often so I've never taken the plunge.

My husband is planning to have this done this summer. He has worn contacts for 25+ years but his line of work is hard on them and the eye drops he's been using aren't working anymore. 3 of his siblings and my nephew have had it done and it has been successful. I've always wanted to get it done but the saving the $ at this stage in my life has been the downfall. it sure would be nice to not have to deal with glasses and contacts anymore.

Congratulations on your new vision! I have thought about this, but don't think I could get it done. I got "oogie" 1/2 through reading your post. Also it's a fight just to get eye drops in my eyes. Fitting me for contacts the first time was "fun."

Jenni, yeah, it's not cheap. I used my 30 year bonus from work to pay for mine. A friend did hers a couple years ago, and used CareCredit.com. No interest if it's paid off on time. I was reading an article that said even with the upfront cost, it pays for itself over time w/o having to buy glasses or contacts and all the contact cleaning supplies. So, the sooner you have it done, the more you save! :-)
kerryc, a friend is going for his consultation next week. He sounds a lot like you. He said it takes them 45 minutes just to do the little air-puff test at the eye Dr. He is hoping for lots of drugs. LOL
I go in on Thursday for my 1 month follow up. My 1 week checkup was great. 20/20 vision, ZERO scar tissue, no need for reading glasses in the near future, and it will only get better over the next couple months.

Kit, I'm so happy for you! Funny how those things can make such a difference in quality of life. I had a friend years ago get those contacts you can sleep in. I didn't think much about it, but to her it was an enormous change. For the first time since she was very small she could see the time on the clock at night. And in the shower, she could see the dirt to wash it off. My vision has always been extraordinary until lately. Distance is still fine, but up close is another matter. I'm still good with just cheaters, but the day will come where I'll need prescription glasses. My dad ended up in his full time by the time he was about 70-75.
