He's getting a big old butt
Look at the muscle definition in those little butt cheeks.
and a big old attitude to go with it. Here he is saying - do I really have to get up - maybe I could just bite you...He was really tired because I had left the halter on him and turned him loose and he spent about 20 minutes rearing up and flipping his head around trying to get the monster off his head, lol.
After pushing on him for about 5 minutes and him sitting up and flopping back down a few times he finally got this far.
I think he is a pretty sharp looking young man but he does have the high tight side by side double swirl so he's going to be a handful...well he already is. He really thinks everything that comes anywhere near him is a chew toy and is constantly rearing up and jumping on his mom - and he's tried it a couple times with me too. I see many many attitude adjustments in his future.
In other news...
I took Kelsey and Sofia for a lesson at the barn a couple miles down the road on Friday night. The guy is a young guy who was raised Amish and has left that lifestyle to train horses full time. I had never met him but have heard only good things about him as far as a trainer goes. He basically told her the same things I do at home but I thought it would be good to have someone other than me work with her. It also is a good "in" for me to start using the outdoor arena their and maybe eventually weasel my way into riding in the indoor. Anyway he had her walking around some cones and working on bending, flexing and making Sofia follow her nose and go where Kelsey wanted her to go. Then he got out a big ball and worked with Sofia on pushing the ball around, "playing kickball". It was probably 1/2 hour of riding and both Kelsey and Sofia were ready to be done. When I asked him what I owed him for the lesson he told me $10. When I first set up the lesson I thought it would be on a horse that he had but then I discovered he only has training horses in the barn no lesson horses. I was unsure if it would be worth it to have her on her pony or if I should put her on one of my big horses for lessons, but I think this will be beneficial for both of them (especially for $10 and it is literally a 5 minute haul...).
Before we left we helped him catch and medicate a kitten with an eye problem (I think its eye was actually ruptured) and looked at the other scaredy kittens. When we got home Kelsey's big news for her dad about the lesson was that we helped catch a kitten, lol. She did ask if we'd go back for another lesson and said it was fun. This week we are going horse camping overnight Tues and then have a gymkhana event Thurs and her dad is competing in a tractor pull fri night so it will be the week after.
