Winter is a hard time to diet!
Our families have more birthdays during the winter months. That means either birthday celebrations with cake and ice cream, or eating out.
My mom goes with me a couple of times a month when I do my thursday errands, and she wants to stop at a restaurant for lunch. Trying to pick out something healthy on a menu is almost impossible.
She wanted to eat at a Tai restaurant yesterday. The dinners came with white rice and I did not eat much of it, which was still bad. We both ordered chicken and vegeteble meals, but I would suspect that the sauce on both meals had a lot of salt.
I have always preached no white foods, no flour and no sugar.
I have always known that bread is not my friend. Last summer I became addicted to the whole wheat dinner rolls at the Walmart Deli... and limit myself to one per day.
With only a 2 pound loss for the whole month of January, it is time to ditch that dinner roll. Any left are going out to the chickens this morning. My breakfast will go back to the original routine of a couple of eggs with bell peppers, garlic, and onions stirred in.
I refuse to give up my raw cow's milk!! I drink 1 1/2 cups of it every morning with my breakfast.

Shame on those birthdays. Yep, I went on a total eating spree pretty much all of January. I've not weighed this much since college.

What a struggle! Another birthday this week. Birthday cake two days in a row!!
Every day I feel like I am dieting and nothing comes off.
I have made a couple of adjustments .. mainly portion control, and have increased the protein (fish or meats)
Started this dang diet on Jan 1 and have now lost 6 1/2 pounds.

It's so hard Snaffle! Keep up the work, you'll be rewarded! The dedication "diets" take is some of the hardest stuff I've ever had to work at! Have you tried finding a calorie counter online ,and figuring out how many calories your specific body needs? It all varies on weight/height, age, and activity level. I'm sure you know 3,500 calories lost = 1lb. I need 2,300 calories a day to maintain my current (obese) weight. I need 1800 calories a day to lose about a lb a week without added excercise. I'm taking in between 1200-1500 a day WITH added excercise (my job alone requires a lot of physical activity) so I'm losing about 3-4lbs a week. nutrition.about.com/od/changeyourdiet/a/calguide.htmAs far as birthday cake, make birthday fruit cakes! (Stack layers of sliced fruit together in a cake pan to make the form, then bang it out later!)

Thanks for the website beth, I will look into that. When the birthday is for a child, it is a bit difficult not to have the birthday cake with scrumptious frosting Also, Sammy is here every tuesday and we have a tradition of baking something yummy every tuesday until the outside temperature is too warm. I send home bunches with her and I no longer double the cookie batches

Haha, well, I guess I can understand. But I'm SO ANTI cake/frosting at this point in my life!
The only one I made that I even am tempted to try anymore, is the pumpkin spice with caramel cream cheese icing. YUM
