I wear the "bifocal" contact lenses. It tried the one eye for distance and one for close up and was so dizzy and nauseous after an hour or so that I called back and told them it was not working. Went back in and they fitted me for the contacts I now wear. The ones I tried first made it difficult to see distance. So we tweaked it and those worked. By the end of the year though seeing up close was difficult even with new contacts in. When I went in, she told me that my distance rx was less and my close rx was more. She explained that happened a lot in people my age!! So we adjusted again and they worked great...I can tell my year is up again though so back to the eye doctor this week!

WOW, this is in an old thread. LOL
I ended up doing Lasik last year. It's AWESOME!! My eye Dr. is thrilled at how well my eyes are, and he's amazed that I still don't need reading glasses. He said by 50, most people need them, and the surgery would speed the process. At my last appt. he said I'm still at least a year away from needing them.

Kit, what exactly does Lasix surgery do? I can see fine at distances, but need reading glasses. Not really high powered, but it's not fun to read without them.

With Lasik, they go in, cut a flap, reshape your cornea, then lay the flap back down. (my surgeon puts on a protective contact that gets removed the following day) The whole process, for both eyes, takes maybe 5 minutes. The prep time takes longer.
My regular eye Dr. set up everything. He did all my prep and follow-up work, and relays that information to my surgeon, so I'm covered for touch-ups for life.
They can do near sighted, far sighted and astigmatism.

My brother had Lasik done about 10 years ago so in his early 50's. His near vision started slipping not long after it. LOL But still going from needing glasses 24/7 to only when you read would be great.

Yes, my eye Dr. said most people do end up needing reading glasses around age 50. Having Lasik will speed up the process a bit.
I got really lucky, I wasn't anywhere near needing them before surgery and am still a couple years out.
There are a few things I have trouble reading, like the number on a watch battery, but that's not an everyday thing. I can still see fine to thread the needle on my sewing machine. My Dr. told me to wait as long as possible before wearing reading glasses. Once you start, your eyes start getting weaker and you'll have to go stronger and stronger. By waiting, wearing the weakest you need, and only wearing them when you really need them, will force your eyes to stay stronger longer.

I was given new contacts because I "cant see suddenly. As u can twll, i can even type with these on. I hate walmart vision now. I was told my vision changed ao muxh but i was still able to wear my old glasses. I called back and was told they arw too busy for me. I went to the ER also and have missed work because of all tgiw. I am so mad about it all. I have to work since i am a SINGLE MOTHER OF 2. 2hat can i do? I cant even walk straight wnd walmart told me they were too busy for me and hung up on me.
