T-thats what Wrigley had. We didn't want to have him suffer and bleed out. Thanks for telling Zephyr's story. Tell Arrow hes a good dog. They always seem to know when we need them most.

I'm sorry you went through that with Wrigley too. The vet said that was very common, and I thin much more so in large breed dogs. But it's so hard to lose them! That's just what we thought as well. She might have been OK for a week or two but she might have had horrible pain - we just couldn't do that. And OMG... there's a dog near us needing rescue - a Pyr. cross that has a face JUST like Zeph, it actually startled me. He's 15 and been tied out his whole life. He's heartworm+ and needs a foster desperately. I so wish we could do it, but that's going to be a huge financial undertaking. Yes, Arrow is amazing that way. The way he comes over and just puts a paw on the shoulder - like a person would. Then will lay his head on the shoulder. And he looks deep into our eyes, and we see... compassion, deep compassion. I do NOT think I'm anthropomorphizing. He's the only dog that has that level of it, the others care and love us, but they're not as sensitive. I think Collies (or Goldens or both) must be so sensitive to their humans.

I just wanna sqeeze Arrow. What an amazing dog. I'm glad you have your comfort in him.
As for the pyr x--this may not be the popular answer--but at 15, I wouldn't treat for heartworms. What I would do (if my heart so guided me) was take him in, love him and show him how wonderful life can be for whatever time he has left. I just believe the treatments are too hard on the older ones.
(((HUGS))).
