I just spent three days walking up and down steep hills in the mountains. The whole time I felt like I was starving because I couldn't bring myself to eat very much of the school's camp food. I consoled myself by thinking that I would have to lose some weight doing that... BUT NO! I gained almost half a pound UGGGGGHHH!

NOOOO!!!! Continue what you're doing and weigh later. I've read a few articles (Don't ask me to remember where) that runners will weigh heavier the first couple days after starting to run or directly after a big run...something about the way the muscle is restructuring and holding water.

(crossing fingers!) I hope it doesn't make it worse that I won't be able to work out today. Get the kids off to the bus at 7:40, stop at home and put my work stuff back in the car and leave for my first appointment by 8, work my way down to Colorado Springs... If I'm lucky I'll get home by 8:30. I'll work out again tomorrow, my regular workout, so maybe my muscles will get back to normal.

The reason has to do with the way muscles hold water as a result of intense exercise. A pound or two or three swing one way or another is almost always water retention versus water release.
