Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Layer pecans-broken pieces, halves, whatever on it.
In a pan, melt 1/2 cup butter.
Stir 1 pound brown sugar. Add a dash of salt.
Stir in 1 cup corn syrup.
Stir in 14 ounces condensed sweetened milk.
Continue stirring till temperature hits 245. I go to "firm ball stage" on my candy thermometer.
Remove from heat, add a dash (or a glug if you're like me) of vanilla. It'll sizzle and nearly explode, so keep stirring!
Pour over pecans.
Sprinkle milk chocolate chips on top.
After a few minutes the chips will be soft enough to spread with a spatula.
A few hours later, you can slide the wax paper and everything off the cookie sheet and onto a cutting board...this is where I cut it into little squares.
If you didn't let it cool long enough, it'll be easier to cut, but they'll still all melt together. If too firm, you'll have to wrestle the knife in a bit, but they snap apart easier.
Of course the end pieces that don't have pecans or enough chocolate go directly into my mouth. ;D

How many milk chocolate chips? A regular 6 oz package? 12 oz? does it matter? Brand name only?

I don't remember the bag size Just whatever Aldi had! So no, it wasn't brand specific! MILK chocolate though...last year I made some with Semi Sweet and I didn't like them as well. Probably a regular 6 oz.
