Aaahhh--this thread makes me sad. I haven't kept up with the Arabian world. My ex and I used to raise straight Egyptians back in ND. We sort of fell into it and got some really good quality mares from a breeder who was moving out of state and couldn't take all the mares with him. Every mare we owned had imported blood right on their papers like El Hilal and Nazeer. And NOT a ONE was extremely hot. They were all perfect ladies, great mothers and the sweetest horses you can imagine. One mare had an eye injury as a foal and was mostly blind in that eye so when we first got her she was a bit flighty but ended up being my absolute favorite. I crossed her with a halter bred Paint one year and ended up with a fantastic gelding that would go for miles and miles and miles--sanely! He also was 16H but the mares were 14.3 to 15.1--the right size for Arabians! That picture of Namusca reminds me of a Chihuahua--little face and buggy eyes. I can't imagine taking the chance and breeding her in case that cropped up in a foal.

I tend to really like the Russian/Polish Arabs myself. Though I have had the privelage of knowing some wonderful SE, some wonderful Crabbet...well, just some wonderful Arabs! Here is one of my friends geldings... as a 3 year old showing at Scottsdale before she bought him: And just because I love the pic.

Who is that horse, Steph? He is stunning. Newfy, his name is RF Footloose...and for the life of me I can't remember his bloodlines right now. I'll see if I can dig them up. He is stunning and he is a really good horse. His owner was a junior rider, getting ready to move out of junior when she got him. Awesome pair. I love watching them. Your polish boy is beautiful. I take it you don't have him any longer because you said he went on to be? I have a soft spot for greys anyway, so I doubly like him. This thread makes me miss the arabs.

um.... first of all, that Scapa baby is a filly
and... secondly, I've met Scapa on several occassions at Paradise and when I took his lead and petted him, he sighed and licked his lips. He is NOT a vicious mean stallion (have you ever met the Minstril? talk about attitude!). Scapa is like most well-bred Egyptians I know personally -- curious, kind, people-loving, intelligent. However, he IS a stallion and when put into situations when horses' feelings aren't taken into consideration, that's when people have problems.
I agree Egyptians are more high-strung than other Arab varieties and I don't like the plastic shaking and noise making that comes with showing them. All they want is to BE with people and if you can form a relationship with an Egyptian then it's AMAZING
