I don't know how I got roped into this but I am apparently the new head of my friend's pumpkin queen contest at her big fall pumpkin bash celebration. The person who dreamed it up quit and I get to take over. She sent me everything that the person came up with and I don't like it at all.
The idea is that it is fun and easy and kind of a silly contest. This is an outdoor event at the riding stable's arena grounds. There will be vendors and a variety of other things going on. You can see all the info on the event at www.annualcountrypumpkinbash.com
The original plans call for 3 age groups 3-12, 13-17 and 18+. It says there is a 2 minute prepared speech on "pumpkins" to be given to include props and attire that fits the subject of the speech. Then another speech while in costume where they tell why they should be pumpkin queen. They are to be judged on creativity and pumpkin spirit.
My main problem with this is that little kids can't be expected to give 2 prepared speeches. I also just think it seems kind of disconnected and lame. I was hoping some of you creative types could help me out with more fun and easy ideas.
Some things I have scribbled down are:
Lowering the limit of the youngest age group and have them be judged on costume and a decorated pumpkin or just drawn from a hat.
Making the other age groups be more involved by working at or appearing during events of the day. Like they get so many points for being involved with this or that (when I ran for rodeo queen as a kid part of the judging was based on how many tickets we sold).
Help I am at a loss and I only have a couple of days to pull this together because she wants in on her website asap. uggh
