I planted a cucumber plant, so maybe I will be able to try this later this summer. I know that Costco has humus--and probably good pita.

I love to try new things, esp. veg. related and at potlucks - but I also wish people would label things that are not obvious as to what they are. I have gotten some nasty sweetened stuff *that shouldn't be sweetened* here in the south too.
People always bring KFC or Bojangles fried chicken, and it gets scarfed up fast - not by me though.
Something I have taken to potlucks (veggies so I know I'll have something to eat) is veggie kabobs. Daddio cooks them on the grill, with teryaki marinade. People LOFF them and I get lots of compliments. Can be done in the ovev in the winter too.
I was not a picky eater as a child but I gagged on fresh tomatoes. I was forced to eat that tomato wedge in my salad every night and it really made me gag. It was a control thing with my parents that I HAD to eat it or sit there till I did. Finally, they made me a deal. If I would eat my tomato every night for one full year w/o complaining - I would be off the hook forever. They didn't think I could do it, but it was so important to me that I did - and they let me off. That was like 45 years ago and every time I tried fresh tomato I gagged. Just last summer I began being able to eat them on sandwiches - not plain. I don't think it is me that changed, but the tomatos are getting firmer and less acid. Tomato lovers hate them - but that's probably why I can eat them.
