I did it that way but I think my leathers are too long for me, because I've got a LOT of extra length left, and it won't stay between the two layers of leather, and it flops all over the place. I actually use the child's length (I think - anyway, shorter) stirrup leathers. Since I was the only one riding, I had someone stronger than me punch a hole in the leather at the same place that the endmost hole is. I used a twist-tie threaded through the endmost hole on the leather and the punched hole. That worked really well, but the fluffy wrap things work better and also help w/ the feel when riding in shorts.

I think I just need to cut off the excess length. I don't know anyone with legs long enough for these leathers!

I have noticed that the LJ doesn't require very long leathers. So Amber, if you cut off very much excess, besides having MA call you a weenie your leathers might be pretty short for use on an english saddle. I've been using wintec webbers on mine and they need to be adjusted to the next-to-shortest hole. On a saddle, they are about in the middle of the holes. Just sayin' - you might never want to use them on an english saddle anyway.

I would have to buy an English saddle to have reason to use them on an English saddle....and leahters aren't that expensive I'd just buy a new set. I could tell Hubby that they aren't compatible. He wouldn't know the difference! And why would MA call me a weenie?

The best way to "punch" holes in leather is to use a drill. It is a lot easier, and you can make them whatever size you want.
My Barefoot fenders have very small holes. It is almost hard to pull out the metal post thru the leather hole if you want to adjust them. I made them just a tiny bit bigger w/a drill, and now, it is VERY easy to adjust the fenders.
Gail brought her drill, and we all drilled new holes in several pieces of our tack. It really made changing my fenders a LOT easier.
Both Gail and Paula ride in my saddles often, BUT they are sooo short. They are too short for my fenders, so they have to use their leathers. I used to pull w/ALL my might to undo my leathers. Now, no problems at all.
Drilling leaves the holes very clean too. It takes a lot less work, and time.

Something about how the chopped off ends are "weenie material" LOL It's so much better when she tells it (just a joke)

Trailpal's right; whacking the ends is a weenie-ism. You don't wanna go around with a chopped end! You'll only have six holes or something! That's like carrying a sign on your horse that says "Weenie Aboard." If you need to shorten the length of your leathers, you take them to a saddler or shoe repairman and have him open up the buckle end and whack them there. Then your fifty-sixes can become fifty-twos. And you keep all your holes. I use forty-eights with my LJ.

oh Dorothy!!
I would like to plead the 5th ammendment! I really am loosing my marbles...
I was skimming all the posts.. I really shouldnt do that!! I thought I read it somewhere.. so I had to go over all of them slowly... and this is what I found:
I read in Mary Ann's postling "BTW, those of you who are getting an Equipedic from Stella? Try it under your LJ, with the buckles up. "
ok.... so now I have to reask my question in a different way:
Mary Ann.... what do you mean by "up?"
the opposite of Dorothy's?
is the buckle down by the stirrup? or up higher?

MA means to have the buckle at the D ring, rather than down by the iron. The equipedic seems to let it squish down into the pad rather than dig into our fat legs
