Mary Ann Thanks! Paintaloosa I'm going to try to post a couple pics for ya. I too, get a ton of *That's a wolf you have?* LOL!! he doesn't really look like your typical Shepherd, I call him my TB shepherd he's twice the height and bounces between 80-85# his daddy is a black & silver and his mom is a Champaign color that came out of black and tan parents, it took me almost 10 yrs to find him as I wanted a white that came out of color. I'm on another search now for another one like him but I know I'll never have another like him he has an old soul and I'm gonna really miss him when he's gone, hopefully not thou for another 5 yrs im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4db00b3127cce9ca062a9c15900000016108AYtWbVs3ZtN [/img]

Charlie, he is BEEEUTIFUL!!! Although I cannot post any pics right now, here is the link to the kennel website where I got both of my dogs, my white female, Lacey is on the page, lying under a tree with another female named Voodoo. No pic of my male in the page, but his sire was Artica's Batman who is on the page as well. And he looks almost identical to Artica's Jinx. Lacey weighs about 85# and Teal'c weighs 110# www.articadogs.comEnjoy!

Hi, all. I'm Mandy from Louisiana. Horseless (always have been) and unhappily so, I was brought out of lurkdom by Chris's ridgeback posts. Since I can't tell ya'll about my horses, I'll tell you about my other animals... Riley, 5 yr BYB Rhodesian Ridgeback Maya, 4 yr Rescue Rhodesian Ridgeback Gizmo, 10 yr Tibetan Spaniel Kagan, 20 month Anatolian Shepherd Plus 3 cats- Maizie, Loki, and Dorian. I have lurked at SM for a while, mainly because I don't have anything horsey to add, but I do love to learn about them. You guys seem like a good group... I promise I'll speak up if I ever have anything to add, or (more likely) to ask. ;D Mandy

Yay! I'm so pleased you would join us, Mandy! I know what a ridgeback is because of Chris, but what in the world are Anatolian Shepards and Tibetan Spaniels?? Got any pics? This group is wild for pics!

Ok, attempting some photos! Here is my male RR, Riley. And my female, Maya. Anatolians are Livestock Guardians from Turkey. They are big, usually pretty serious, and most of the time unsuited to inside, city, normal pet dog lifestyles. That is, of course, unless they are mine. Kagan is a big baby with a big mouth. I live on a couple of fenced acres out on a dead end road, which is about as "citified" as I would get with an Anatolian. They are a rare breed and still quite close to their ancestors from Turkey, still have quite the working dog mentality, and are seriously menacing when they want to be. Again, though, my boy is atypical... basically, a big suck who rolls over for belly rubs. Can be aloof to strangers, though. Here's Kagan (name means king or ruler in Turkish) at about 10 months. And last but not least, my little angel, Gizmo. Tibbies are Himalayan in origin, and were reportedly used to spin the prayer wheels of the monks, sit as companions, and also sit on the high walls of the monastery and bark to signal the approach of visitors (or intruders) and also to alert the Tibetan Mastiffs on the ground inside the walls. They looove high places and are quite cat-like and fastidious. I looove my little man!! This is him in my old college apartment. That got a little long... very sorry if that was too many pictures... but as you can tell, these guys are my babies and I can talk about & show pics of them for days! Thanks so much for asking about them! Mandy

OH Mandy, loff your dogs. One of my vets raises Turkish Akbash dogs. They are big like you Anatolian but snow white. They are gorgeous.
Rocky has quite a wide head compared to other Ridgebacks. We don't know what he's mixed with.

Thanks!! It's funny that you mention Akbashes, there is quite a bit of division in the Anatolian community regarding whether the Anatolian, Akbash, and Karabash (fawn with black mask, like Kagan) are actually different breeds or if they're just different color varieties of the same breed- because registered, proven lineage Anatolians come in all 3 (and more) colors. Major point of contention for some... me, I'm stayin out of it!! LOL Mandy

Mandy, your dogs are gorgeous! Such sweet, intelligent faces! Although I have to confess that these are probably my first glimpse at some of these breeds. They're kinda out there for me. People look at my Corgis sometimes with confusion. They're about as ignorant of different breeds as I am, and wonder what their parents were, until they see four that match so closely! I'm down to two now, but they're fun dogs to have. I've seen some photos of Chris's vet's dogs through a friend (not Chris), and find them odd looking too. But different is fun; heck, Friesians are different.... I like the little Tibetan guy; reminds me of a Peke that was blessed with a real nose. And the others look like they'd make good trail dogs. Post pics here any time! They're adorable!

Mandy, your ridgies are wonderful! I had a sweet, loving, beautiful RR for several years. Jamie. She went into renal failure last year, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to her her PTS. I couldn't stand seeing her suffer any longer. I still miss her so much!
Your others are great, too, but I have a special place in my heart for RRs.

Aw, thank you, Karen! I'm so sorry to hear about your RR. It always seems like it's too soon, no matter when it happens. I hope you'll be able to love another ridgie, they're addictive! Mandy
