Gingersnaps
3/4 cup shortening (crisco) 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed) 1/4 cup molasses 1 egg 2 1/4 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon cloves
Mix the the first 4 ingredients together in a large bowl.
Combine the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl and add slowly to wet mixture, mix well.
Dough will be kind of stiff.
Roll into 1" balls, then roll balls in granulated sugar.
Place evenly spaced on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
Shorter baking time will give you softer cookies, longer baking time will give you crispier cookies.

Oh yum! I have a friend who loves ginger snap cookies. I can't wait to try these out. I wonder if you could add crystalized or candied ginger to this so they come out like the ones at Whole Foods?
