I love this poem!
When I am Old Author Unknown
When I am Old I shall wear diamonds And a wide brimmed straw hat With silver and leather on it and I shall spend my social security On white wine and carrots And sit in the alley of my barn And listen to my horses breathe. I will sneak out in the middle of a summer's night And ride the sorrel colt Across the moonstruck meadow. If my old bones will allow. And when people come to call I will smile and nod. As I walk them past the gardens to the barn And show, instead, the beauty growing here In stalls fresh-lined with straw. I will learn to shovel and sweat and Wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel. And I will be an embarrassment to all Who look down on me. Who have not yet found the peace in being free To love a horse as a friend, A friend who waits at midnight hour With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes For the kind of woman I will be When I am Old.

Have I read it??? Mary Ann, I pretty much LIVE it....LOL (It matches my purty purple saddle.) But I don't want you to think I'm some lowbrow redneck who can't dress for the occasion.....I can go basic formal if I have to.....LOL... Some of my favorite things: Sitting in the hay safe when it's raining and listening to the gentle stomps and munching in the shed. The first snow.....when the 2 boys are cowering in the shed, but the mare is out, picking up a fine dusting of diamond sparkles on her broad bay back. The first whisker trim in the spring, when I realize that....hey, I've got some pretty fine looking animals. Critters: if there is a better form of therapy, I have yet to discover it. Diane I. WI

Yup, only the old lady wore turquoise instead of diamonds, but she was the same lady!
Yes, DianeI.. you are that lady!
I don't have the hats, but that's where you'll find me too.

Diane, I can't believe you really have that hat! That's amazing! What you had to say was beautiful; it sounds like poetry. It's so good to know others understand how we feel.
Are you by any chance a Red Hat?

Never fear, Chris.....I have one in turquoise, too!!!! Mary Ann, I've never heard of a Red Hat, so I went searching......I'm not a Red Hat, but I could be....LOL... Growing older is mind over matter: if you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Diane I. WI
